Tax and Compliance Specialist
Must live within 60 minutes of Carbliss HQ
We're looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Tax & Compliance Specialist to help keep Carbliss accurate, compliant, and moving forward as we continue to grow into new markets. In this role, you'll oversee a variety of state and federal tax and regulatory compliance activities, including excise tax reporting, distributor invoicing, state price posting, licensing, registrations, and Out-of-State Shipper Compliance. You'll work closely with Finance, Sales, Business Development, and Operations to ensure requirements are met accurately and on time, especially as we enter new markets and introduce new products. WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Prepare accurate bills and invoices for distributors and enter invoices, credit memos, and related transactions into NetSuite in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of state-specific excise tax, price posting, and regulatory requirements, ensuring all applicable requirements are completed accurately and on time.
- Prepare and file state and federal excise tax returns and remit required payments accurately and by established deadlines.
- Partner with the Sales team to establish and maintain accurate state pricing and ensure approved pricing is properly reflected in NetSuite and PPM.
- Reconcile excise tax accounts and research and resolve discrepancies between internal records, tax filings, payments, and state agency records.
- Prepare, file, and maintain all required Out-of-State Shipper Compliance reports and filings for applicable states, ensuring accurate reporting and timely submission in accordance with state requirements.
- Support new market launches in partnership with the Business Development team and other applicable teams, including state registrations, licensing, price posting, reporting requirements, and other compliance activities. This includes completing required registrations and compliance requirements when new products or innovations are introduced into existing markets.
- Maintain and renew applicable state licenses, permits, product registrations, registrations, and bonds, ensuring all requirements remain current and in good standing.
- Create & maintain accurate and complete customer, distributor, pricing, tax, and account information within company systems and databases.
- Create & maintain an organized compliance calendar for excise tax filings, Out-of-State Shipper Compliance filings, price postings, licenses, registrations, renewals, and other state-specific reporting requirements and deadlines.
- Create & maintain complete and organized supporting documentation for tax filings, payments, price postings, registrations, licenses, and compliance reporting to support internal reviews, audits, and regulatory inquiries.
- Monitor changes to applicable state excise tax, pricing, licensing, and compliance requirements and proactively communicate changes or potential risks to appropriate stakeholders.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests related to excise tax, distributor activity, pricing, licensing, and state compliance.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with team members across Finance, Sales, Business Development, and Operations to ensure accurate information, timely issue resolution, and effective cross-functional communication.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls and improve the accuracy, efficiency, and standardization of accounting and compliance processes.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
- Associate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field is preferred.
- Two or more years of experience in tax, accounting, regulatory compliance, or related work experience required. Multi state tax and federal tax or regulatory compliance experience is preferred.
- Experience with excise tax, alcohol beverage compliance, TTB requirements, state alcohol licensing, product registration, or price posting preferred.
- Previous experience using an ERP system is preferred.
- Valid driver's license, insurance, and satisfactory driving record required.
- Must be willing to be in the office a minimum of three days a week
- Must live within 60 minutes of Carbliss HQ.
- This position requires reliable transportation and the ability to travel up to 15% of the time
- Must be willing to travel out of state on team trips a minimum of four times per calendar year.
