Description

Overview

The AFGHS-Jhpiego project is funded by the U.S. Department of State (DoS) to support the delivery of lifesaving, comprehensive maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) and malaria services across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. It aims to improve service and data quality, strengthen health-system integration and resilience, facilitate effective transition, and promote local ownership and accountability for sustained health outcomes.

Jhpiego works closely with the Ministries of Health in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, the Reproductive and Child Health Section (RCHS), the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Programme (ZAMEP), and Regional Administration and Local Government (RALG) structures to align implementation with national priorities and strengthen locally led implementation and oversight.

Position Summary

The Immunization Advisor provides technical leadership, guidance, and implementation support for immunization interventions under the AFGHS project to improve the availability, quality, and utilization of integrated maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) services across targeted regions of Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Reporting to the Technical Director – MNCH, the Advisor works closely with the Ministry of Health's Immunization and Vaccine Development Programme (IVDP), relevant government counterparts, and project teams to strengthen routine immunization services, improve equitable coverage, and promote integration of immunization within existing health service delivery platforms.

The Immunization Advisor provides technical oversight and mentorship to field teams and government counterparts to support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of evidence-based immunization interventions. Working closely with Field Team Leaders and monitoring, evaluation, research and learning (MERL) teams, the Advisor ensures that technical approaches are responsive to regional and council priorities, address service delivery and performance gaps, and align with approved project milestones and payment-linked deliverables, supporting timely achievement and verification of results.

The Advisor contributes to the project's sustainability and transition objectives by strengthening government leadership, ownership, and capacity to plan, manage, supervise, and monitor immunization services. This includes institutionalizing effective immunization practices within existing government systems, strengthening routine data use and accountability, and supporting the progressive transition of technical and implementation responsibilities to government counterparts to sustain immunization coverage and service quality beyond project support.

This position will be closed on October 19, 2026.
