Now Brewing – Coffeehouse Design Manager, Concepts Environments & Special Projects! #tobeapartner

From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.

As a Design Manager on the Concepts Environments & Special Projects team, you will help define and evolve the physical expression of the Starbucks brand. You will create scalable environmental design systems and standards while designing high-profile stores, pop-ups, and in-store experiences that celebrate place, test new ideas, and set new benchmarks.

You will translate strong ideas into brand-defining, commercially viable solutions. This role requires a thoughtful, hands-on designer who moves fluidly between strategy and detail, works independently and collaboratively, and is willing to tackle any task needed to achieve results.

As a design manager on the Concepts Environments & Special Projects Team, you will…

  • Support and develop coffeehouse environmental design direction that translate brand strategy into compelling, scalable physical experiences.
  • Create and evolve global design standards and adaptive strategies that respond to existing conditions, maintain a consistent customer and partner experience, and adapt to evolving brand and business needs.
  • Support and develop designs for high-profile stores, strategic renovations, pop-ups, and in-store experiences from concept through implementation.
  • Partner across internal teams and with external consultants, fabricators, and vendors to align design, technical, operational, and business requirements.
  • Support commercialization by coordinating design intent, specifications, sourcing, schedules, budgets, documentation, and implementation requirements.
  • Produce clear narratives, presentations, drawings, visualizations, material palettes, prototypes, and design documentation that support decisions and execution.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Interior Design, Architecture, Environmental Design or relevant field. Graduate degree a plus.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in interior design, environmental design, architecture, retail design, or a related field.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong concept development and the ability to translate ideas into built environments.
  • Experience contributing to projects across multiple phases, from research and early concept through design development, documentation, prototyping, and implementation.
  • Strong proficiency with Revit, Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and Enscape. Other design visualization and presentation tools such as Rhino, Twinmotion, Lumen, etc are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of interior and environmental design principles, materials, finishes, FF&E, space planning, accessibility standards, construction processes, and detailing.
  • Strong visual storytelling, presentation, communication, organization, and project management skills.
  • Comfort working collaboratively across disciplines and incorporating feedback.
  • A balance of creative ambition and practical execution.

Additionally, Starbucks offers 100% upfront tuition coverage for a first-time bachelor’s degree through Arizona State University’s online program via the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, student loan management resources, and access to other educational opportunities. You will also have access to backup care and DACA reimbursement. Starbucks will comply with any applicable state and local laws regarding employee leave benefits, including, but not limited to providing time off pursuant to the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act, and in accordance with its plans and policies. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
