Reviews and monitors laboratory outcomes, develops and implements policies and procedures and develops overall education program for POC testing staff, to ensure conformance with established standards. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Experience: Other Credentials: Knowledge and Skills: Special Training: Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Usual Work Day: Bachelor's degree in related field. MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification. Three years laboratory experience including point of care experience. Familiarity with personal computers. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Point of Care Testing training. MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification Ability to communicate effectively and work independently 8 Hours Reporting Relationships Does this position formally supervise employees? Yes ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develops, implements and monitors point of care testing program. Reviews and monitors Develops, implements and monitors point of care testing program. Reviews and monitors outcomes, develops and implements policies and procedures and develops overall education program for testing staff, to ensure conformance with established standards for quality assurance. Oversees the activities of the POC testing staff to ensure accurate and reliable test results. Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of staff to achieve quality testing results, to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, to achieve operational efficiency and to adhere to established policies, practices and procedures. Oversees and assures completion of proficiency and competency testing as required, and follows up with correction actions to address unacceptable results. Discusses need for and schedules laboratory and nursing meetings to discuss issues related to all aspects of point of care testing performed on the nursing units. Develops, implements and monitors Laboratory Department point of care program. Reviews and monitors laboratory outcomes, develops and implements policies and procedures and develops overall education program for hospital staff trained to perform POC testing to ensure conformance with established standards and regulations. Oversees quality assurance of POC testing performed by CH personnel. Discusses findings with laboratory management and develops and implements corrective measures, including new policies and procedures, hands-on training and specific training programs. Ensures adequate laboratory staff are trained to serve as POC coordinator back up. Maintains adequate inventory of operating supplies in order for department to run smoothly. Prepares timely and accurately a variety of reports and records as required. Communicates with vendors as required. Monitors performance of equipment and takes appropriate measures to ensure proper and safe operation of equipment. Monitors performance of preventive maintenance schedule to ensure timely performance. Evaluates operations, quality assurance, quality control, adequate inventory of supplies and individual performance. Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the point of care testing operating budgets. Reports on POC quality assurance activities to appropriate hospital and committees as identified by Laboratory Director and Quality Resource Management Department. Works with nursing managers and lab leadership to ensure compliance with all POC accreditation and regulatory requirements. Monitors and analyzes outcomes, reviews results of proficiency testing, and reviews monthly departmental POC quality assurance reports to assess degree of compliance with POC quality assurance standards. Maintains accurate records, procedure manuals, quality assurance records and quality control records as required. Maintains documentation required by regulatory agencies. Enforces and follows established CH and departmental policies, practices, and procedures.
