Anaplan Sr SW Applications Engineer

Position Summary
 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Anaplan Model Builder to design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise planning solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, data teams, and other model builders to translate planning requirements into scalable, maintainable, and high-performing Anaplan models.
 

This role requires strong hands-on model-building expertise, sound understanding of enterprise planning processes, and the ability to independently own requirements from analysis through deployment and production support.
 

Key Responsibilities

Anaplan Model Development

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain Anaplan models supporting enterprise planning processes

• Translate functional requirements into appropriate lists, hierarchies, modules, line items, calculations, dashboards, and UX pages

• Develop efficient formulas using functions such as SUM, LOOKUP, SELECT, FINDITEM, RANK, time functions, Boolean logic, and conditional calculations

• Apply Anaplan model-building standards and the PLANS methodology to ensure performance, logical structure, auditability, usability, and sustainability

• Review model dimensionality, sparsity, cell count, calculation complexity, and data volumes to maintain strong model performance

• Identify and remediate inefficient formulas, unnecessary dimensions, nested conditions, text-based calculations, and other performance bottlenecks

• Configure model calendars, time ranges, versions, subsets, line-item subsets, numbered lists, selective access, roles, and user permissions

• Create intuitive Anaplan UX experiences, including worksheets, boards, management reports, planning workflows, and exception views
   

Requirements and Solution Design

• Partner with business stakeholders to understand planning processes, pain points, business rules, and reporting requirements

• Convert business requirements into detailed technical designs and model-building specifications

• Ask appropriate clarification questions and identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and data-quality issues before development begins

• Participate in solution-design sessions and provide recommendations on model architecture, maintainability, scalability, and user experience

• Support planning use cases such as sales planning, territory and quota planning, workforce planning, financial planning, forecasting, capacity planning, or operational planning
   

Data Integration

• Design and maintain imports, exports, processes, saved views, and integration-ready data structures

• Work with data engineering and integration teams to connect Anaplan with upstream and downstream systems

• Support integrations using Anaplan Connect, APIs, CloudWorks, ETL platforms, or equivalent integration technologies

• Validate source data, investigate rejected records, reconcile planning outputs, and maintain data integrity across models

• Contribute to Data Hub and spoke-model architecture where applicable

Testing and Deployment

• Prepare unit-test cases and perform thorough testing before handing solutions to QA or business users

• Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, regression testing, and production validation

• Manage model changes through Application Lifecycle Management, revision tags, development, test, and production environments

• Ensure deployments are properly documented, tested, approved, and communicated

• Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely root-cause analysis and resolution

Performance Optimization and Support

• Monitor model size, calculation time, process runtime, page-loading performance, and concurrent-user experience

• Conduct before-and-after performance measurements for optimization changes

• Diagnose calculation bottlenecks, blocking issues, excessive dimensionality, inefficient data flows, and poor formula design

• Provide production support during planning cycles, forecasting periods, close cycles, and other critical business events

• Document recurring issues and implement permanent corrective actions rather than relying on manual workarounds

Team Collaboration and Leadership

• Mentor junior and intermediate Anaplan model builders

• Conduct peer reviews of formulas, modules, data flows, UX pages, and technical designs

• Promote consistent model-building standards, naming conventions, documentation, and development practices

• Participate actively in sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, demonstrations, and retrospectives

• Identify delivery risks early and communicate them clearly to project leads and stakeholders

• Prioritize work according to business value, delivery capacity, technical dependencies, and planning deadlines

• Take ownership of assigned solutions and proactively identify opportunities for improvement

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in information systems, engineering, finance, business, data analytics, or a related discipline

• At least 3–5 years of hands-on Anaplan model-building experience

• Demonstrated experience independently building and supporting production Anaplan models

• Anaplan Certified Solution Architect certification

• Strong understanding of multidimensional model design, lists, hierarchies, modules, line-item formats, summary methods, and model calculations

• Experience with Anaplan UX, security, selective access, imports, exports, processes, and Application Lifecycle Management

• Experience diagnosing and improving Anaplan model performance

• Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear technical solutions

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skills

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work with technical teams, business users, senior stakeholders, and distributed project teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with a centralized Anaplan Data Hub

• Experience with Anaplan APIs, CloudWorks, Anaplan Connect, or enterprise integration platforms

• Experience in sales planning, territory and quota planning, financial planning

• Experience working in Agile delivery teams

• Familiarity with data governance, audit controls, segregation of duties, and SOX-compliant environments

• Experience leading technical reviews or mentoring other model builders

• Knowledge of SQL, data warehouses, business intelligence platforms, or cloud data technologies
