ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Assistant Buyer, International, supports the International Buying team in executing and managing merchandising strategies across select international markets and brands. Reporting to the Buyer, this role is responsible for analyzing business performance, inventory trends, consumer behavior, and market data to inform assortment, pricing, and product decisions.
The ideal candidate is genuinely curious about all aspects of the merchandising process — from inventory planning and buying to product analysis and assortment development. We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with a passion for retail, consumer behavior, and data analysis.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Buying & Merchandising Strategy
Support the Buyer in developing and executing seasonal assortment strategies and merchandising plans for assigned international markets and brands
Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, inventory levels, product performance, and Open-to-Buy (OTB) to identify opportunities and risks, and recommend actions to the Buyer
Evaluate assortment performance and provide recommendations on product selection, depth, market allocation, replenishment, and inventory positioning
Prepare for and participate in product meetings and assortment reviews (Style Out)
Maintain assortment planning tools and business processes that support buying and merchandising decisions
Recommend pricing adjustments, including markdowns, for stores and e-commerce based on market conditions, product performance, and inventory levels
Work on ad hoc business analyses and special projects aligned with strategic merchandising objectives
Business Analysis, Reporting & Communication
Compile, review, and interpret weekly and seasonal sales and inventory reports to identify trends, opportunities, and key performance indicators
Prepare clear business analyses and presentations that summarize findings, highlight risks and opportunities, and support decision-making
Develop and maintain reporting tools and dashboards used by the Buying team
Prepare materials and provide support for business reviews, key initiatives, collaborations, and internal meetings
Collaborate cross-functionally with Planning, Allocation, Product, Marketing, Visual Merchandising, and other teams; contribute relevant analysis and recommendations in cross-functional discussion
Partner with international and franchise partners to gather business information, understand market needs, and support execution of approved merchandising strategies
Order Management, Systems & Other Responsibilities
Assist with the execution of purchase orders based on approved assortment and buying strategies, including style setup, product classification, and maintenance of accurate product data
Generate, maintain, and monitor purchase orders from creation through delivery, flagging potential delays, discrepancies, or inventory risks
Maintain organized and accurate records related to purchase orders, assortment decisions, business analyses, and key communications
Identify opportunities to improve reporting, workflows, and business practices within the Buying function
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned
Stay current on retail industry trends, consumer behavior, competitive activity, and international market dynamics relevant to assigned brands and markets
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Ability to analyze information, identify trends and opportunities, and develop actionable recommendations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work with minimal supervision
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication, collaboration, and follow-through skills
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and international business partners
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Buying & Merchandising, Retail Management, or a related field preferred
2+ years of relevant experience in buying, merchandising, or fashion retail
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; solid understanding of retail math
The pay range for this role is $72,000-$79,000/yr USD.
