Adjunct Instructor, Communication Law

Key Responsibilities 

• Develop and deliver course materials, lectures, and assignments that align with the course objectives and departmental standards. 

• Facilitate interactive classroom discussions, potentially in both in-person and online/hybrid formats, to foster critical thinking and a dynamic learning environment. 

• Assess and grade student coursework, assignments, papers, and examinations in a timely manner, providing constructive feedback. 

• Maintain regular office hours (virtual or in-person) to provide academic support and mentorship to students. 

• Stay current with developments, trends, and advancements in communication law and incorporate this knowledge into the curriculum. 

• Implement university and departmental policies and procedures, including submitting grades and other required reports by established deadlines. 

• Collaborate with full-time faculty and department staff on curriculum enhancement and program development as needed. 

Qualifications and Skills 

Required: 

• Education: A Juris Doctor (JD) degree or a Master's degree in Communication Law, Media Studies, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. (A Ph.D. in Communications or a related field is often preferred for university-level positions). 

• Experience: Demonstrated professional experience in a legal field related to communications, media, or journalism (e.g., media law practice, in-house counsel, regulatory work). 

• Skills: 

• Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. 

• Proficiency with educational technology, including learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas or Blackboard, and video conferencing platforms like Zoom. 

Preferred: 

• Prior experience teaching at the college or university level, or relevant training/mentorship experience. 

• Active admission to the bar in one or more U.S. jurisdictions. 

• Experience with online teaching formats and instructional design principles.
