Description
The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Qualified Assistant and Records Custodian supports the delivery, operational continuity, and regulatory compliance of the College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program. Working under the direction of the Public Safety Department Head and BLET School Director, this position assists with planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating BLET courses and associated training activities.
This position serves as the designated Qualified Assistant and Records Custodian in accordance with North Carolina Department of Justice Training and Standards requirements and supports testing administration, instructional logistics, records compliance, instructor coordination, and academy operations. The position maintains active instructional involvement and provides operational continuity during periods of School Director absence.
This is a full-time, 12-month staff position.Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
Instructional and Program Support
• Teach assigned BLET instructional content and maintain active General Instructor credentials.
• Evaluate student learning and performance using approved instructional methods.
• Assist with developing BLET course schedules and implementing schedule adjustments during course delivery to support operational and instructional continuity.
• Assist the BLET School Director with scheduling instructors for classes and coordinating instructional coverage to support effective course delivery.
• Assist with BLET adjunct instructor selection, onboarding, and coordination to support effective instructional delivery and operational continuity.
• Ensure instructional lesson plans, handouts, and instructional materials remain current and consistent with applicable state and program requirements.
BLET Operations and Compliance
• Assist the School Director in ensuring compliance with all North Carolina Department of Justice Training and Standards requirements.
• Meet expectations and maintain qualifications required of a BLET Qualified Assistant as established by the North Carolina Department of Justice.
• Assist with exam administration, testing security, and student documentation processes.
• Support the BLET School Director with the preparation, completion, and timely submission of required college and program reports.
• Assist in responding to audits and regulatory reviews.
• Provide operational continuity and support during periods of School Director absence.
Records Custodian Requirements
• Serve as the designated Records Custodian for BLET and maintain all required program records.
• Maintain and update BLET student records in accordance with North Carolina Department of Justice standards and applicable college requirements.
• Assist with preparation and maintenance of required pre-delivery, post-delivery, and ongoing BLET reports and records throughout course delivery.
• Maintain and complete the BLET course completion report in accordance with North Carolina Department of Justice and college requirements.
• Maintain current BLET instructor certification records and associated training documentation in accordance with applicable program and college requirements.
• Maintain electronic BLET and college records and reporting systems required to support program operations, compliance, and instructional delivery.
Program Administration and Logistics
• Coordinate operational logistics for BLET course delivery.
• Calculate, prepare, and coordinate instructor contract requests and support instructional scheduling processes.
• Coordinate instructional equipment, supplies, vehicles, and training resources.
• Support student application intake and onboarding processes.
• Assist with development and maintenance of the BLET course calendar to support instructional planning and operational delivery.
• Operate and support the VirTra firearms simulator training system to support Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and Workforce Continuing Education (WCE) instructional and training activities.
• Assist with maintaining instructional equipment, training vehicles, weapons, facilities, and operational resources to support safe and effective program delivery.
• Ensure necessary equipment, supplies, instructional materials, and operational resources are available and maintained to support instructors and effective course delivery.
Partnership and College Engagement
• Serve as a liaison with law enforcement agencies and training partners as assigned.
• Support departmental partnerships and workforce training initiatives.
• Attend departmental, college, and professional meetings.
• Participate in professional development and maintain required certifications.
• Advance the mission and core values of Sandhills Community College.

| • High school diploma or equivalent. • Minimum of four years of sworn law enforcement experience. • Current North Carolina Department of Justice General Instructor certification. • Minimum of two years of instructional experience (law enforcement instruction acceptable). • Current Qualified Assistant certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire. • Ability to complete required DOJ orientation and annual professional development requirements. • Experience using Microsoft Office and standard business software. • Experience maintaining records and documentation with strong attention to detail. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings and occasional weekends. |
