Assistant Director of Operations
Frostburg State University, Department of Student Engagement, seeks applications for a full-time, exempt Assistant Director of Operations position in the Lane University Center & Event Services to begin Fall 2026. Salary commensurate with qualifications and includes University System of Maryland benefits package.
The Lane University Center serves as a dynamic gathering place where students connect, lead, learn, and build community. Through a vibrant environment, the Lane University Center & Event Services team supports student success by fostering meaningful involvement opportunities, campus experiences, and creating spaces that promote belonging and engagement. Annually, the department hosts more than 6,000 meetings and events. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team within the Office of Student Engagement, working alongside campus partners to enhance the overall student experience.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of the Lane University Center & Event Services, the Assistant Director of Operations assists in the overall management, operation, and production of the Lane University Center technical services. This position recruits, trains, supervises, and develops the student Technical Services Crew while overseeing the technical planning, production, and operational support of events serving students, faculty, staff, and external clients. The Assistant Director collaborates with campus partners to deliver exceptional event experiences, maintain and enhance facility technologies and systems, support risk management and operational initiatives, and contribute to the Lane Center's mission of enhancing student engagement, building community, and enriching the overall Frostburg State University experience.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience with facility operations in a student union/university center, technical direction, or related field. Demonstrated experience with event production including audio, lighting, and video. Demonstrated experience dealing with clients, providing detailed customer service, and meeting production deadlines is required. Valid non-commercial driver’s license. Must be available to work nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in management, technical theater, or a related field. More than three years of experience with student union operations, technical theater, technical direction, electronic media/film, events, or related field. Experience working with and supervising students in a college environment. Experience with event scheduling software (EMS) and large scale, concert lighting/sound system operation.
Other: Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and progressively responsible related work experience may be considered.
