Custodial Shift Supervisor

What You’ll Do
This position of Custodial Shift Supervisor supervises a shift of custodial staff responsible for maintaining College facilities. Duties include overseeing routine and specialized cleaning tasks, assigning and monitoring work, managing schedules, and ensuring adequate supplies and equipment. The role requires evaluating staff performance, prioritizing tasks, and exercising independent judgment within established policies to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
Supervising Custodial Service Specialists on assigned shift to include coordinating work assignments, identifying tasks to be completed, providing instruction/direction, and identifying areas for improvement.
Ensuring regular employees are on a scheduled basis.
Identifying tasks for each employee to accomplish during their shifts (in conjunction with their daily duties).
Identifying areas for improvement, including job performance, motivation, productivity, and efficiency.
Assessing ways the department can streamline services by conferring with Custodial staff and others.
Assigning tasks other than the regular ‘grab keys and go’ for employees to complete utilizing the AiMs system.
Conducting employee performance appraisals in a timely manner.
Conducting training for Secondary Supervisor and assisting with the training of new employees.
Ensuring the Secondary Supervisor is trained in all aspects of the position and understands how to use technology such as tablet/computer.
Reviewing “How to Be Safe on The Job” on a monthly basis with the crew and ensuring safety precautions are being followed during work.
Maintaining records of inventory, equipment out of service, supplies, and all areas of custodial jobs and performance, ensuring records are properly saved in the Cloud.
Keeping and maintaining all records of assigned staff in AiMs and Workday utilizing tablet and computer, and providing reports upon request in all areas of the Shift Supervisor of Custodial staff.
Issuing supplies and maintaining inventory.
Ensuring supplies are inventoried, shelved, and accounted for.
Performing daily walkthroughs, conducting weekly written inspections, and evaluating results.
Placing work orders for items requiring manpower, time, or financial resources, including down equipment, in AiMs.
Closing out work orders and Shift Supply orders as they appear in AiMs.
Monitoring recycling program.
Performing routine custodial duties (dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, cleaning, sanitizing, mopping, waxing, and carpet cleaning) as needed.
Assisting with set-ups.
Operating and maintaining custodial equipment.
Ensuring custodial closets are properly stocked, cleaned, and locked.
Maintaining effective communication with supervisor and employees.
Communicating with staff regarding performance.
Spending time with staff during walkthroughs and providing feedback on areas of improvement.
Answering after-hours phone calls from TSC staff.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:
A high school diploma or its equivalent.
Four (4) years of custodial experience, one (1) year of which must be at the supervisory level; or a combination of education and/or experience.
Experience operating communication devices and office equipment such as radios, telephones, computers, tablets, and copiers is preferred. Must possess a valid drivers license.
