P4Job Summary:
The Manager, Formulations at Tyson Foods serves as a key liaison between data-driven formulation analysis and strategic execution within the business unit. This role is responsible for overseeing the development and optimization of meat formulations used in daily operations, ensuring alignment with cost, quality, and supply chain objectives. Leveraging insights from pricing, raw material usage, demand forecasting, and production capabilities, the Manager, Formulations leads efforts to implement least cost formulation (LCF) strategies that drive operational efficiency and product consistency. this position ensures the effective use of value raw materials, refines master data governance, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the protein portfolio. This position also plays a critical role in forecasting protein needs and enabling accurate, sustainable sourcing decisions that meet both short-term execution goals and long-term business strategy.
This position will sit full time onsite in Springdale, Arkansas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Meat Formulation Management: Oversee the daily management and configuration of meat formulations for entirety of assigned business portfolio, ensuring product consistency, quality and adherence to formulation standards across facilities. Identify and facilitate the use of value raw materials in an opportunistic manner, aligning with business strategy and optimizing cost-efficiency. Monitor several plant-level formulation practices to ensure accurate raw material application and compliance with specifications, collaborating closely with Operations to balance cost and performance.
• Cost Control and Optimization: Responsible for cost optimization and raw material utilization across multiple MBUs through daily maintenance of Production Bill of Materials and implementation of LCF guardrails to drive margin and efficiency.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Procurement, R&D, Supply Chain, and other functions to align formulation decisions with planning horizons, using data insights to resolve issues and drive process improvements. Establish strong relationships with Operations personnel to balance process optimization with meat formulation management.
• Maintain Data Integrity: Conduct audits of master data and SAP entries to ensure accurate product specifications, initiating updates to support compliance and optimize LCF calculations. Design and evaluate metrics that measure raw material optimization, software accuracy, and adherence to specification, identifying areas for improvement and underutilization. Identify, propose, and implement reporting and process enhancements that improve the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of formulation execution and decision-making.
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or another science related field of study, or equivalent work experience, is required.
Work Experience:
4+ years of relevant and practical work experience is required. Experience in food processing or manufacturing is strongly preferred.
Special/Technical Skills:
Data Analysis and Reporting: Proficient in data analysis tools, data visualization techniques, and reporting best practices.
Statistical Analysis and Problem-Solving: Skilled in statistical methods, interpreting complex data sets, and identifying areas for process improvement.
Database Management: Knowledgeable in database structures, management, and auditing processes.
Collaboration & Communication: Excellent verbal, analytical, and written communication skills. Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners and communicate to both technical and non-technical team members.
PC Skills: Advanced computer skills required including Formulation (least cost) software, SAP or similar ERP system, Power BI, and Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
Travel:
Occasional travel is required (up to 10%).
