Description of Work

A successful candidate for the CAP Plumber Supervisor will provide the CAP mechanical construction operations group with planning, scheduling, and installing plumbing equipment, pipe fitting, and underground utility installations on multi-million-dollar Force Account construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects.  Specifically, within the areas of offender labor force construction trade training and supervision; project; management and coordination with other trade groups; tool, equipment, and material procurement; scheduling of project inspections; and overall construction project evaluation and monitoring.

A successful candidate for this position shall have journeyman level plumbing trade skills, strong construction supervision, efficient decision-making capabilities, and the ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing.

Key Duties Includes
•Journeyman level plumbing construction experience within commercial, institutional and or governmental construction projects.

•Working knowledge of plumbing equipment, piping, and underground utilities.

•Knowledge and understanding of NC Plumbing Codes and industry standards relating to OSHA, accepted construction industry standards, UL standards, etc.

•Strong ability to review and interpret construction designs, plans, and specifications for the purposes of coordinating construction installations for new construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $41,206.00-$72,113.00

  • Thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction techniques and of the tools, methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.

  • Working knowledge of building codes, environmental rules and all other rules and regulations governing repair, maintenance and construction of facilities.

  • Ability to direct journey level work in a variety of trades, to read schematics and blueprints, to sketch or review technical drawings, to estimate repair and construction projects, and to perform paraprofessional engineering projects.

  • Ability to train, direct and supervise subordinates and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Work Location and Schedule

The position requires weekly overnight travel to and from the assigned construction projects that could be located anywhere within the State of North Carolina. This position will have a duty station assigned as the individual’s permanent home address and is assigned a State owned and maintained vehicle that is used to commute to and from the construction projects and to perform Company business during normal working hours. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM but occasionally could require work hours on Fridays. A valid NC Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

About The Division of Support Services: 

The Support Services Division oversees the operations and infrastructure that sustain facilities within the Department of Adult Correction. Responsibilities include facility maintenance, fleet and warehouse management, food services, construction and renovation projects, and energy efficiency. This division plays a vital role in supporting daily operations and long-term planning. 

About the Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) 

Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) operates as the NCDAC Capital Project Coordinator (CPC) and is tasked with coordinating all capital improvement and renovation and repair projects with the State Construction Office (SCO) and serves as the DAC representative on all matters involving the State Property Office and State Building Commission. Our unified purpose is to provide architectural and engineering support, sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency planning, construction, and maintenance services to ensure all statewide Institutions and Facilities remain in compliance with building codes, regulations, and legislative mandates, while also promoting the agency’s rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training within the construction and maintenance trades, while assisting institutions directly and indirectly with the installation and maintenance of kitchen, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and electronics equipment.
