Job Description Summary

The Liquid Fuel Combustion Technology Principal Engineer serves as a recognized subject matter expert and provides advanced technical leadership to the Global Combustion Module engineering team. This role is responsible for driving engineering excellence across combustion mechanical design, aero-thermal analysis, emissions, combustion dynamics, and liquid fuel operability for GE Vernova’s liquid Fuel Technology across Gas turbine combustion systems. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining standardized design templates and practices for Liquid Fuel Combustion to ensure global engineering excellence and consistency. Furthermore, the PE collaborates with the Gas Turbine Fleet Service Team and Combustion Design to provide robust solutions for complex field issues, while simultaneously partnering with the Combustion Virtual Lab team to advance state-of-the-art liquid modeling and simulation technologies.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a recognized technical authority in Liquid Fuel Combustion Technology, setting standards and influencing key engineering design decisions for combustion systems and components, including liquid fuel combustion systems, including liquid spray injectors, spray characterization, scaling methods, fuel cartridge solutions, and system-level integration with accessories, controls, and gas turbine systems.
  • Serve as the global technology owner for liquid combustion, ensuring 100% compliance with standardized templates across all projects.
  • Provide internal leadership for resolving technical issues and developing cutting-edge solutions for combustion systems.
  • Act as the primary interface with external modules (e.g., Accessories, Control) to ensure liquid fuel systems function as intended at the system level.
  • Provide essential consultation to Technical Leaders and People Leaders on Critical to Quality (CTQ) design elements and enterprise risk
  • Partner with Gas Turbine Fleet Service Team and Combustion Design to provide solutions to solve field issues across moderate-to-high complexity NPI, fleet, RCA/CAPA, and product improvement programs.
  • Partner with Combustion Virtual Lab team to advance the liquid modeling and simulation technologies
  • Guide CFD, aero-thermal, 1D/3D dynamics, flow-network, acoustics, and operability analyses to support design direction, RCA, CAPA redesign, lab-test planning, field-test support, and fleet issue resolution.
  • Act as a primary subject matter expert, providing technical guidance to project teams, stakeholders, suppliers, manufacturing, sourcing, field support, controlled title holders, Consulting Engineers, and the Chief Engineer’s Office.
  • Review and approve engineering documentation, analyses, test plans, design reviews, and technical recommendations to ensure rigor, compliance with internal standards, and alignment to external/customer requirements.
  • Identify technical risks, lead cross-functional problem resolution, define effective system-level mitigations, and own accountability for selected technical paths forward.
  • Anticipate and develop technologies, design practices, and analytical methods that support product introduction, quality, performance, variable cost-out, reliability, and future business needs.
  • Generate and mature new ideas, support invention disclosures where appropriate, and drive validated improvements into products to strengthen competitive advantage.
  • Mentor and coach developing engineers, support knowledge sharing, identify skill gaps, and build team capability across combustion mechanical design, aero-thermal analysis, and liquid fuel operability.
  • Lead continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates, review processes, quality practices, Lean methods, lab/field correlation, and AI-enabled engineering effectiveness.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in the field of gas turbine mechanical design, development, and testing.
  • In-depth knowledge of combustion system design, development testing, and field operation.
  • Demonstrated technical domain expertise required to drive new technology and balance enterprise risk

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of combustion system designs (Heavy Duty and Aeroderivatives)
  • Demonstrated ability for complex problem solving and RCA resolution
  • Demonstrated leadership in defining the state-of-the-art solutions to business critical problems/challenges in the field of combustion design and analysis, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage stakeholders across the gas turbine business
