Overview

The Material Inspector will be responsible for inspecting, testing, monitoring, and verifying all construction materials used on the RCRC Bridges Project to ensure compliance with approved specifications, quality standards, contract requirements, and relevant international codes.

Your role

Material Inspection & Verification

  • Conduct inspections of construction materials delivered to site and verify compliance with project specifications and approved material submittals.
  • Review and verify material certificates, test reports, manufacturer documentation, and compliance records.
  • Inspect materials prior to installation and ensure approval status is maintained.
  • Monitor storage, handling, and preservation of materials to prevent deterioration or non-compliance.
  • Ensure traceability of materials throughout the construction process.

Testing & Laboratory Coordination

  • Coordinate with approved testing laboratories for material sampling and testing.
  • Witness and verify field and laboratory testing activities.
  • Review test results and identify any non-conforming materials or products.
  • Ensure testing frequencies comply with contract specifications and inspection test plans (ITPs).

Concrete & Structural Materials Inspection

  • Verify sources and approvals for concrete materials and constituents.
  • Monitor concrete batching, delivery, placement, curing, and testing activities.
  • Inspect reinforcement works and verify material compliance before concrete placement.
  • Review concrete mix designs and quality records.
  • Monitor compliance with requirements for high-performance and structural concrete used in bridge construction.

Structural Steel Inspection

  • Inspect structural steel materials, fabrication records, and coating systems.
  • Verify material certificates, welding consumables, and fabrication documentation.
  • Monitor delivery, storage, and installation of steel bridge components.
  • Coordinate with welding and coating inspectors to ensure compliance with project requirements.

Quality Assurance & Documentation

  • Review Material Inspection Requests (MIRs) submitted by contractors.
  • Prepare inspection reports and maintain comprehensive records of inspections and approvals.
  • Issue observations and non-conformance reports (NCRs) where necessary.
  • Track corrective actions and verify successful close-out.
  • Support quality audits and surveillance activities.

Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Attend quality meetings and provide updates on material compliance status.
  • Support resolution of material-related quality concerns and technical queries.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure inspection activities are conducted in accordance with project HSE requirements.
  • Promote safe handling and storage of construction materials.
  • Monitor environmental compliance relating to material storage, disposal, and usage.
  • Participate in project safety initiatives and inspections.

About you

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Technology, or related discipline.
  • Additional certifications in material testing, quality management, or construction quality assurance are highly desirable.
  • Professional memberships and certifications will be considered an advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in construction material inspection and quality control.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience on bridge and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience on Saudi Arabian or GCC infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with international consultants, contractors, or project management consultants (PMC) is preferred.
