Department Description
With a global footprint, the Universal Music Group Royalty and Copyright Product Team designs develops, delivers and maintains several technical solutions to calculate royalty accounting in a timely and accurate manner to our valued artists.
We’re also providing them with extensive and detailed visibility of their earnings from various sources of digital income. The team continuously collaborates with our international business teams to deliver innovative solutions, support best practices, and introduce new processes for better royalty flow.
The Role
The Data Engineer will work closely with business stakeholders, product managers, and engineering teams to deliver data-driven insights & automation that support the Royalty and Copyright business. The role is responsible for analyzing data, identifying trends, producing reporting or automated processes/ETL solutions, supporting data quality initiatives, and translating business requirements into actionable insights.
The successful candidate will help improve business decision-making through accurate reporting, analytics, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
Develop and optimise data integration solutions between on-premises and cloud platforms.
Ensure the quality, reliability, and integrity of enterprise data.
Build and maintain data warehouses, data lakes, and semantic data models.
Automate manual data processes to improve efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
Implement data governance, security, and compliance standards across data platforms.
Troubleshoot and resolve data quality, performance, and integration issues.
Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into reporting or automated solutions.
Communicate analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
Identify opportunities to automate reporting processes and improve operational efficiency.
Skills and Experience required
Must Have
Strong SQL skills and experience querying large datasets.
Experience with Python, R, or other analytical programming languages.
Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
Experience development ETL/ELT solutions
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance processes.
Ability to gather, document, and analyze business requirements.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Experience working with relational databases, data warehouses, and reporting platforms.
Nice to Have
Knowledge of cloud data platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
Knowledge of royalty and copyright processes.
Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
Music industry business knowledge.
