Position Summary:

The Maintenance Mechanic job is a core component for our maintenance force and requires a trained and experienced individual to contribute to our success as one of the world's largest steel producers. The Maintenance Mechanic performs mechanical maintenance functions necessary to maintain operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and mobile equipment, such as pendant and overhead cranes and forklifts as required. As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will install, maintain, repair, and operate a broad range of mechanical systems and equipment in a heavy industrial environment to maintain continuous operations.

Job Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Operations Shift Leader – Plant Operator/Maintainer the Mechanic – Plant (Concentrator/Pellet) will be responsible for the following:

Preventive & Scheduled Maintenance

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a broad range of mechanical systems and equipment including hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, power transmission systems, conveyors, cranes, and mobile equipment.
  • Aid in operating functions as necessary.
  • May be required to work at heights and/or in confined space.
  • May work alone with minimal supervision or with other maintenance technicians.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all MSHA Part 56 safety regulations, mine-specific SOPs, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures on all equipment.
  • Conduct and document JSAs (Job Safety Analyses) before beginning high-risk maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in safety meetings, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and report hazardous conditions, near-misses, and equipment deficiencies immediately to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Parts & Inventory

  • Accurately record parts consumed and coordinate with the parts/warehouse team for component staging and replenishment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area in the plant maintenance shop and in the field.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency with hydraulic, pneumatic, and power transmission systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment service manuals, hydraulic/electrical schematics, and OEM documentation.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to operate equipment for testing/repositioning purposes.
  • Ability to pass MSHA Part 48 new miner training, pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check.
  • Willingness to work rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education

  • Minimum of 2 years manufacturing and/or industrial experience (including relevant experience gained in military service) or equivalent education. This includes experience in any of the following:
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Pneumatic systems
    • Lubrication systems
    • Power transmission systems
    • Welding
    • Pipefitting
    • Structural repair
    • Diesel mechanic
  • High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling of components up to 50 lbs independently; team lifts for components over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, in pits, and under raised equipment (with proper blocking and safety protocols).
  • Extended standing, kneeling, crouching, and working overhead throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor conditions year-round including extreme cold (−30°F) and heat (100°F+)

Salary:

  • $31.00 per hour
  • Overtime: Paid at 1.5x the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek (Sunday–Saturday)
  • Winners Circle Incentive: A biweekly incentive calculated as a percentage of biweekly wages (base pay + overtime), paid in the same paycheck and tied to the production of safe, quality tonnes. Guaranteed at the 70% target level through September 30, 2026 (Construction Phase); calculated against achievable, hourly-measured production targets during the Ramp Up Phase (through March 31, 2027); and tied to biweekly production targets thereafter (Optimization Phase).
  • Triple Crown Incentive: A discretionary annual profit-sharing opportunity of up to $22,750, with a portion tied to safety and ESG performance. Paid only during outstanding company performance years; full plan details are shared before the first performance period.$110,000 - $145,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
