Position Summary
The Nursing Academic Success Coach provides individualized and small-group academic support to nursing students, with primary responsibility for students supported by the Cabrini Grant. This individual will work closely with the Chair of the Nursing Department, colleagues within the Student Success Center, and nursing faculty to develop effective strategies for continuous academic improvement. The Coach will serve as a liaison between the college, partner institutions, and key stakeholders, delivering evidence-based academic coaching, tutoring and programming to promote student retention, progression, and success.
This is a part-time hourly 12-month position working up to 24 hours per week.
This position is funded by external sources and is contingent on the continued receival of those funds.
Principal Duties and Essential Functions
Job duties specific to this position:
Direct Student Support
Provide longitudinal academic coaching and support for Cabrini Scholars throughout their progression in the nursing program.
Teach a one credit, graded, dedicated section of AVS 101 for Cabrini Scholars each fall
Deliver individualized and small group tutoring in Anatomy & Physiology and various nursing courses to enhance understanding of course content, promote critical thinking, and develop clinical reasoning.
Analyze student exam performance and academic habits to identify challenges with test-taking strategies, study skills, time-management, and organization. Develop and implement targeted remediation plans, short and long-term SMART goals, and individualized strategies to address those challenges.
Meet regularly with students to review progress, provide feedback, and document tutoring sessions in the tutoring database.
Meet on an as-needed basis with nursing students currently on academic probation and/or referred by faculty and the E.A.S.E. (Early Alert System Exchange) team to connect students with appropriate academic support and resources.
Refer students to appropriate campus resources for mental health, learning accommodations, financial aid, and other support services.
Programming & Workshops
Design and facilitate workshops, review sessions, seminars, and other programs tailored to academic needs of nursing students.
Identify gaps in support services based on best practices in retention and develop programs to address those gaps and improve student success.
Contribute to college-wide and nursing-specific retention initiatives to support institutional goals for student retention and program completion.
Collaboration & Communication
Maintain regular communication with the Chair of the Nursing Department, the Director of the Student Success Center, nursing faculty, faculty teaching Anatomy & Physiology, and academic advisors.
Attend and engage in Student Success Center staff meetings and Nursing Department faculty meetings.
Collaborate with partner nursing school faculty and staff to coordinate support services across the ADN/BS pathway.
In collaboration with partner programs, utilize NCLEX preparation platforms such as ATI and Kaplan to identify students’ readiness, who may benefit from additional support, and communicate concerns to the nursing department as appropriate.
Program Administration & Grant Support
Assist with grant-related activities including data collection, reporting, and writing as needed to support program compliance, continuation, and ongoing program improvement.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of Cabrini Scholar enrollment, progress, and engagement with program services to support grant reporting and compliance.
Assist in managing Anatomy and Physiology tutoring services, such as accurately tracking tutoring hours and assessing tutoring usage.
Professional Development & Other Duties
Participate in professional development activities to remain current with evidence-based practices in academic coaching, nursing education, and student success. Apply current guidelines and relevant research to improve service delivery.
Serve on committees and assist on special projects as assigned.
Perform a variety of related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Master's degree in Nursing (MS) required, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with significant experience in nursing education or academic coaching.
Active NYS Registered Nurse License in good standing required.
Previous experience tutoring Anatomy and Physiology is preferred
Experience working directly with college students concerning academic success
Establish and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with campus contacts, including students, staff, faculty, parents, and community members
Possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Maintain a high level of confidentiality due to the sensitivity of the nature of the student and college information this position requires
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate student needs and programming
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Additional Information:
Pay Range: $30.00 - $39.00 per hour
