The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering is looking for a high calibre candidate to fill a Senior Technical Officer position.
Duties include:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise technical officers and teaching assistants in the daily operations, maintenance, and management of the teaching laboratories to ensure the delivery of high-quality lab sessions in chemical engineering, energy technology and/or biological engineering.
- Collaborate closely with course instructors to design, pilot-test, and troubleshoot new experiments to continuously modernize and improve the teaching curriculum.
- Propose new teaching equipment and manage grant submission.
- Develop and coordinate outreach lab activities to promote the department's programs and engage with the broader community.
- Provide advanced technical assistance, equipment troubleshooting, and operational support to the department's research laboratories as required.
- Enforce and audit rigorous laboratory safety protocols. Ensure adherence to best practices and institutional guidelines in all daily lab operations.
- Manage the procurement of laboratory supplies, consumables, chemicals, and new equipment, and assist in the annual budget forecasting and compliance for the laboratories.
- Undertake additional ad-hoc duties and support broader departmental initiatives as assigned.
Requirements:
Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree or above in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biological Science, or a closely related discipline, alongside a minimum of 5 years of relevant technical experience in a laboratory or industrial setting, where having plenty of teaching experience is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate strong technical skills and in-depth, hands-on knowledge of laboratory equipment. The ideal candidate should have a strong sense of responsibility, be self-initiative, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks under pressure. He/She should have good communication skills, a strong commitment to teamwork, and the ability to interface effectively with faculty, students, other units and external vendors. Applicants with less experience may be considered for a Technical Officer position. (Duration: 2 years)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
