Job Description:

The LSUA SPERO Program is seeking a dedicated SPERO Employment Skills Coordinator to join our team. This role plays a vital part in preparing Spero students for competitive, integrated employment by teaching employment skills classes and overseeing on-campus internships. The Coordinator will help bridge classroom learning with real-world workforce experiences, supporting Spero students as they transition to meaningful employment after graduation.

 

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties Teaching & Instruction

  • Teach daily employment skills classes covering topics such as resume writing, job applications, . interview skills, workplace communication, professionalism, and job retention.
  • Develop and update curriculum materials that are engaging, accessible, and aligned with the needs of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Incorporate hands-on activities, guest speakers, and real-world scenarios into instruction.

Internship & Workforce Training Oversight

  • Coordinate and oversee student on-campus workforce training and internship placements.
  • Match students with appropriate internship opportunities based on their interests, strengths, and career goals.
  • Provide on-site support, supervision, and feedback to students during internships.
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with on-campus worksite supervisors to ensure positive experiences and skill development.

Employer Outreach & Networking

  • Assist program director in representing the Spero Program at job fairs, business networking events, and community meetings.

Collaboration & Program Support

  • Collaborate closely with the Director, Spero Life Skills Instructor, Mentors, and Internship Supervisors to provide holistic student support.
  • Participate in team meetings, student progress reviews, and program planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, internship hours, and employment outcomes.
  • Assist with program events, student social integration activities, and other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Human Services, Business, Communications, or a related field
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in employment services, transition programs, or inclusive postsecondary education.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (for on-campus and occasional off-campus outings).

 

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching or training adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of supported employment practices and vocational rehabilitation.

 

  • Previous experience coordinating internships or job placement services.
