Description
The Engineering Lead will provide hands-on technical leadership for software that supports transaction-critical retail operations. You will lead and mentor engineers, shape the technical roadmap, guide architecture and integrations, improve reliability and observability, and remain close to code, design, incident resolution and delivery.
This is a software-engineering leadership role, not a DevOps-only or infrastructure-only position. The successful person must retain the technical depth and curiosity to investigate difficult problems, review code, make architecture decisions and improve production outcomes.
Profile for success
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring software-engineering teams while remaining technically hands-on.
- Proven delivery of complex retail, payments, e-commerce, transaction or other high-volume operational platforms.
- Strong practical understanding of architecture, design patterns, scalability, reliability, security and observability.
- Experience with APIs, integrations, distributed systems, messaging, data consistency and production incident resolution.
- Experience with AWS and/or Azure; Kafka or comparable event-driven technology is valuable.
- Backend and frontend or full-stack capability, with evidence of personal ownership rather than tool-name exposure alone.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical trade-offs to Product, operations and senior leadership.
- A player-coach mindset, with recent examples of coding, design, code review, technical problem-solving and team development.
- Three-month notice period preferred; candidates should be prepared to discuss any retailer restraint obligations.
