Description
The VP of Construction & Facilities leads the construction organization and directs strategic planning, business development, and operational activities related to construction to meet the financial and growth organizational objectives, and leads overall operations and develops the strategy and policies to deliver design, planning, implementation, construction, and maintenance of the organization's facilities and properties.
Overseeing Construction, the role owns the quality, performance, and safety standards, the financial processes, and the costs and timelines that deliver projects on time and within budget, and represents the organization in discussions and negotiations with clients, contractors, governmental or regulatory officials, and other stakeholders.
On the Facilities side, the role plans and allocates the capital, equipment, and operating budget, ensures the reliability of all building systems, and establishes building operations policies, procedures, and service standards to comply with all local laws and regulations. Manages a business unit, division, or corporate function with major organizational impact and establishes/implements overall direction and strategic initiatives for the given major function or line of business.
Construction
- Develops quality, performance, and safety standards and processes for construction projects and operations.
- Manages financial processes like forecasting, estimating, budgeting, and cost control to ensure profitability.
- Builds effective teams and the capacity to estimate, scope, design, plan, organize and implement construction projects.
- Monitors costs and timelines to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Evaluates and implements new or innovative construction methods and systems to improve efficiency, productivity, and project outcomes.
- Represents the organization in discussions and negotiations with clients, contractors, governmental or regulatory officials, and other stakeholders.
- Identifies risk and implements insurance and risk control strategies.
Facilities
- Plans and allocates the capital, equipment, and operating budget to support current operations and long-term facility plans.
- Ensures the reliability of all building mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, plumbing, and waste management systems.
- Establishes building operations policies, procedures, and service standards to comply with all local laws and regulations.
- Reviews and negotiates contract terms and conditions for contractors selected for facility projects and the delivery of services.
- May be responsible for additional facility-related functions like food services, security, safety, environmental, or administrative services.
Requirements
Required
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience including ownership of construction and facilities functions
- Multi -unit restaurant, retail or hospitality experience with responsibility for a portfolio of locations across more than one market
- Demonstrated experience delivering new location construction from site handoff through opening
- Experience building and managing capital and operating budgets, including capex forecasting and variance reporting
Preferred
- Background in commercial build outs including equipment specification, procurement and installation
- Experience with new market openings and expansions and a familiarity with permitting and inspections processes across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience scaling a construction and facilities function during rapid unit growth
Skills
- Detail oriented with an ability to read and interpret construction, architectural and equipment drawings
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross functional partners and external partners (landlords, inspectors, contractors)
- Ability to manage and oversee several concurrent projects at different stages without losing timeline or cost control
