Description
This position performs a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance of the city's parks, grounds, and trail system; operates a wide range of motorized and non-motorized equipment and tools; performs inspection and maintenance on tools and equipment that is assigned; assures the safety of amenities placed in the parks, trails, marina and beaches; assists other work divisions when assigned or requested; performs a variety of snow removal and ice control tasks; may supervise seasonal employees; assists with the construction and maintenance of seasonal ice rinks.
During the summer season, the primary responsibility of this position is to oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the city’s 1 baseball, 4 softball, and 3 soccer fields; and provide support at 7 other fields. Duties include:
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Maintains park turf, landscaping, playgrounds, and irrigation.
- Supports Recreation Department program and outside sponsored programs using park facilities.
- Performs tree and shrub maintenance.
- Inspects and maintains park buildings and site amenities.
- Constructs and maintains sidewalks, trails, and boardwalks.
- Operates and maintains machinery and equipment.
- Plows, sands, salts, and scrapes ice and snow from streets, sidewalks, trails and parking lots.
- Assists the public when requested.
- Performs seasonal athletic field and ice skating facilities maintenance.
- Assists other work divisions and departments when assigned.
- Performs a variety of snow removal activities.
- Responds to emergencies when necessary
During the summer season, the primary responsibility of this position is to oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the city’s 1 baseball, 4 softball, and 3 soccer fields; and provide support at 7 other fields. Duties include:
- line painting, mowing, dragging, daily field prep,
- supervision of 6 seasonal employees,
- communication with Recreation department for field schedules,
- and work with outside athletic organizations that use city fields.
- A commitment to and belief in the organization's shared values.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- 1 year experience operating and maintaining park and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Possess a valid class A commercial driver's license within 12 months of hire date.
- Enrolled in FMCSA CDL Clearinghouse at the time of interview.
- Experience using a PC, email, MS Word.
- Available to be on call for weekend and holiday work.
- Must be able to respond to the public works facility within 45 minutes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 year of municipal park maintenance experience.
- 3 years maintenance experience in athletic field and grounds maintenance or equivalent.
- Possess a valid CPSI Playground Safety certification.
- 1 year experience in plowing snow on roadways, parking lots, and/or trails and sidewalks.
- Possess a Tree Inspector certification.
- 1 year experience in repairing grounds maintenance equipment.
- 2 or more years of experience repairing and adjusting irrigation systems.
- 2 or more years of experience supervising seasonal employees.
- Snow removal and ice control methods with light equipment (skid steer, toolcat, etc.).
- 1 year of experience maintaining outdoor hockey rinks.
- 2 years of experience maintaining trails and sidewalks.
Knowledge of:
- Buildings and grounds maintenance procedures.
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscaping and horticultural skills.
- Basic construction material use skills.
- Operation, maintenance, and repair of light and heavy equipment.
- Equipment and hand tool usage.
- Safe use of pesticide and herbicide chemicals.
- Basic safety methods.
- The care and use of a variety of tools and equipment.
- The rigging and transportation of light equipment.
- Turf, landscape plantings, and tree care maintenance procedures.
- The operation of motor vehicles.
- Work productively, efficiently and safely.
- Work in a team setting with a variety of individuals.
- Communicate in oral and written form.
