Position Summary...

The Senior Counsel, IP provides strategic legal guidance by analyzing business objectives and regulatory requirements to support informed decision-making. This role supports intellectual property risk mitigation efforts, oversees open source compliance, and manages complex legal matters including contract review and intellectual property including patents. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, the Senior Counsel develops and implements legal strategies that align with corporate goals. The position fosters ethical standards, supports workforce development, and ensures adherence to company policies while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence within a dynamic business environment.

About the team:
Join the Intellectual Property Center of Expertise as a Senior Counsel. This team provides strategic legal advice and support across all Walmart businesses, collaborating closely with key stakeholders and subject matter experts within Legal and Compliance. The group focuses on risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property management, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Members contribute to developing legal strategies, reviewing contracts, and delivering training to enhance organizational capabilities. The team fosters a professional environment dedicated to integrity, continuous improvement, and effective cross-functional partnership to support Walmart’s goals and operational success.

What you'll do...

• Support developing, maintaining and counseling the company on pertinent patent law, open source software issues, and related policies, ensuring alignment with company standards.
• Connect with Walmart’s business segments to understand product roadmaps and priorities, develop appropriate patent and IP strategies, and ensure coverage for key initiatives.
• Work closely with technologists, engineers, and other functions to review open source software requests as well as help shepherd compliance efforts.
• Manage relationships with internal clients and external counsel to address legal issues and mitigate risks effectively.
• Promote ethical standards and compliance, fostering a culture of integrity and accountability across teams.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives by integrating legal insights into business decision-making and operational excellence.

What you'll bring:

• Extensive experience counseling clients on patentable subject matter, invention, and open source software governance.
• Experience providing legal advice and counsel on complex business matters.
• Proven ability to develop and implement legal strategies aligned with organizational goals.
• Strong expertise in regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and policy analysis.
• Demonstrated skill in managing legal support for business transactions and projects.
• Proficiency in legal research, analysis, and evaluation of legislative and regulatory developments.
• Registered USPTO patent attorney.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
