Manufacturing Termination Engineer III

 

Johanson Technology Inc. (JTI) is looking for a Manufacturing Termination Engineer III for our Manufacturing facility in Tijuana, MX. The role will be responsible for engineering ownership, process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of thick-film termination processes supporting a broad range of ceramic electronic component configurations.

 

JTI has over thirty years' experience specializing in the design, manufacture and sales of high-quality Power and RF ceramic chip capacitors, inductors, and Integrated Passive Components into the global electronics market.

 

Yearly Salary (Exempt): $125,000 - $140,000

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related technical field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of process or manufacturing engineering experience in electronic ceramics, passive components, thick-film metallization, hybrid electronics, or a related high-temperature materials process; exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered based on technical strength
  • Demonstrated hands-on engineering experience in manufacturing/process development, including structured troubleshooting, experimental work, technical documentation, and implementation of process improvements.
  • Proficient in communicating and writing, Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint

Preferred EDuCATION AND Experience

  • Master's degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry,
  • Direct experience with termination pastes, rheology, furnace profiling, glass frit systems, controlled-atmosphere firing, solderability, passivation, or BME manufacturing.
  • Experience implementing PLC-controlled equipment, industrial automation, robotic systems, machine-vision systems, or automated material handling in a production environment.
  • Experience qualifying new materials, pastes, equipment, fixtures, or suppliers and transferring development work into stable production.
  • Experience with DOE, SPC, PFMEA, control plans, Lean/Six Sigma methods, and formal corrective-action systems

 

ESSENTIAL FUCTIONS, including but not limited to: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Own and continuously improve the termination process from paste preparation and application through drying, firing, passivation, solderability, inspection, and release to downstream operations.
  • Characterize and control termination paste rheology, including viscosity, thixotropy/shear response, yield behavior, solids loading, dispersion, aging, mixing, handling, and lot-to-lot variation as they affect application and dimensional performance.
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot silver-palladium (Ag-Pd), silver-platinum (Ag-Pt), and copper termination paste systems across multiple product geometries and configurations.
  • Support Base Metal Electrode (BME) products and understand the interaction of copper and nickel metallization systems with reducing, neutral, oxidizing, and controlled-atmosphere firing conditions.
  • Develop and maintain firing profiles, including binder burnout, ramp rates, peak temperature, dwell time, cooling, oven loading, belt speed, zone balance, oxygen potential, dew point, and other atmosphere controls that affect termination quality. Apply knowledge of glass frit chemistry and material properties, including glass transition/softening behavior, coefficient of thermal expansion, wetting, adhesion, shrinkage, ceramic compatibility, and interactions with metallic phases during firing.
  • Control termination thickness, coverage, geometry, dimensional consistency, wetting, adhesion, and shrinkage; investigate electrode migration, diffusion, reaction layers, and other metallurgical or ceramic-interface mechanisms when defects occur.
