He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
We're looking for a Senior Planning Engineer - Biosolids to join our Strategy & Planning team and play a pivotal role in shaping Auckland's future biosolids servicing solutions.
Reporting to the Manager - Biosolids Planning, you'll provide technical leadership and strategic planning for Watercare's biosolids portfolio. You'll support the ongoing optimisation and eventual closure of the Puketutu Island landfill while helping deliver Auckland's future biosolids servicing solution through a significant long-term programme of work.
This is a unique opportunity to work on complex environmental and infrastructure challenges that will have a lasting impact on Auckland's communities and environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading planning and technical workstreams to support future biosolids servicing solutions.
- Supporting the delivery of the Mangere Biosolids Servicing Project.
- Developing strategies and site-specific biosolids servicing options across Watercare's wastewater treatment network.
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants, councils, iwi and community groups.
- Providing technical expertise, project oversight, reporting and financial management across assigned projects.
- Supporting resource recovery initiatives and sustainable outcomes across the wastewater network.
Ngā pūkenga e rapu nei mātou | About you
You'll be an experienced engineer who combines strong technical capability with strategic thinking and excellent stakeholder management skills.
You'll bring:
- A degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Process Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 6 years' relevant experience.
- Experience in planning, design or operation of wastewater treatment plants, landfills, or related infrastructure.
- Strong project management capability and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to influence, collaborate and build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a passion for sustainable outcomes.
Experience in biosolids/sludge/waste servicing solutions and environmental regulatory frameworks will be highly regarded.
