Substation Automation Engineer & Commissioning Specialist

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Substation Automation Engineer & Commissioning Specialist to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, testing, and commissioning of Substation Automation Systems (SAS) for power utility and grid infrastructure projects.

You will work closely with engineering, project management, and field teams to deliver reliable and innovative automation solutions that support the safe and efficient operation of substations. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to critical energy projects while developing your expertise in a dynamic international environment.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Perform detailed engineering design of Substation Automation Systems, including protection, control, and SCADA systems, utilizing relevant international and company standards.
  • Develop and review technical documentation such as functional design specifications, logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and test procedures.
  • Configure and program Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) including protection relays, bay controllers, and RTUs from various manufacturers.
  • Develop HMI/SCADA applications for substation control and monitoring.
  • Conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for SAS systems.
  • Perform commissioning activities at substations, including wiring checks, functional testing, and integration with the control center.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
  • Provide technical support to customers and project teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, design engineers, and field technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Participate in customer meetings and technical presentations.

Your Background:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical disc
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in Substation Automation Systems engineering and commissioning. Strong knowledge of protection relays, bay controllers, RTUs, and SCADA systems from major vendors (e.g., ABB, Siemens, GE, Schneider Electric).
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3.
  • Proficiency in SAS engineering tools and software (e.g., Protection Relay Configuration Software, SCADA configuration tools). Experience with testing and commissioning equipment (e.g., relay test sets, network analyzers).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  •  Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory. Knowledge of Romanian is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites for commissioning activities, both domestically and internationally. Valid driver's license.
