AV Events Engineer

What you will be doing in this position
As a member of the AV Production Events team, this position will provide or oversee live production support for Office of Information Technology (OIT) customers, specifically in the area of Live Production Video Engineering, Infrastructure Design and Project Management. The OIT AV Production team provides events services on a 24×7 basis to all of Brigham Young University, for a broad variety of clients and venues. All events are considered important, and many are high profile, including international broadcasts of events. The person filling this position will fill the role of Engineer -In-Charge, and as such will oversee all systems of assigned events including maintaining equipment and infrastructure. This person will specialize in video engineering support and will supervise/direct others who provide engineering support for these events.
The AV Events Engineer is in charge of production facilities including all infrastructure with event venues and all production equipment used during events. They must assist the AV production department with LED boards, projection, sound, lighting, teleprompter and recording equipment. They must coordinate complex infrastructure projects and communicate the technical implications to others, training and teaching others of all levels. They must also perform upgrading and maintenance of circuits to the component level and troubleshoot and repair complex electronic systems. This position requires a rare and extremely high capacity to prioritize tasks according to urgency, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and work with others to accomplish complex technical goals, under pressure of extremely high production standards for events that are frequently broadcast internationally and to large audiences locally. Must be able to design and implement systems used by the AV team.
The individual filling this position must possess great commitment to the University, as well as outstanding diplomacy and grace and the ability to function in high stress situations. This person must possess exemplary professionalism and inspire confidence in the AV department’s ability to consistently produce excellent support for all events.
Multi-Camera Video Productions
- Operation, maintenance and supervision of production control rooms and mobile production units for events
- Coordination of production facilities, crews, vehicles and tools
- Camera setup, calibration, color & shading, temperature, balance, rendition, exposure.
- All other technical parameters of multiple cameras before, after and during events.
- High definition camera installation, positioning, configuration and use
- Color correction for single and multi-camera indoor and outdoor environments
Production Technical Infrastructure
- Campus-wide and building-wide backbone fiber and network distribution systems
- Head-end program origination and signal processing systems,
- Individual room, office, and classroom connections
- Back feed systems for in-building program origination
- Installation, maintenance and configuration of end user systems
Video Systems
- Projection
- Design/development research and design consultation
- Purchasing and installation of systems
- LED Board Displays
- Observation and monitoring, including remote monitoring
- Video recording systems design
- Dubbing, mixing and general production of post-event videos and audio
Lighting
- Indoor live event lighting for massive activities at major activity centers

What qualifies you for this role
Education and Experience:
This position provides an opportunity for people of varying levels of skill. If you have a lot of education, experience, and skill, we’ll compensate you accordingly. Different levels of pay are assigned depending on experience/education/skills.
Professional (Level 54T): Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required. Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience preferred. Supervision experience preferred. ($88,000-$114,000 approximate starting salary range)
Senior Professional (Level 55T): Bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience, or master’s degree and 3 years, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience is required. Minimum of 3 years of technical supervision experience is required. ($102,000-$132,500 approximate starting salary range)

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
