Summary of Job Duties:

The Exercise Physiologist provides exercise assessment, prescription, monitoring, and education for patients participating in cardiovascular rehabilitation and related clinical programs. This position develops individualized exercise plans based on patient health status, functional capacity, risk factors, and established clinical protocols. Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation professionals, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to promote safe physical activity, improve cardiovascular health, and support patients in achieving individualized health and wellness goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Responsibilities:

• Conducts exercise and functional assessments to evaluate cardiovascular response, physical capacity, risk factors, and readiness for participation in prescribed exercise and rehabilitation programs. 

• Develops and implements individualized exercise prescriptions based on clinical information, functional assessments, patient goals, provider recommendations, and established guidelines and protocols. 

• Monitors patients during exercise and rehabilitation activities, including heart rate, blood pressure, cardiac rhythm, symptoms, perceived exertion, and other appropriate clinical indicators; recognizes abnormal responses and communicates concerns to appropriate clinical staff. 

• Provides patient education and counseling related to physical activity, cardiovascular risk-factor modification, exercise safety, lifestyle changes, and strategies to support long-term adherence to healthy behaviors. 

• Collaborates with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation professionals, and other members of the care team to develop, implement, and modify individualized plans of care based on patient progress and clinical needs. 

• Documents assessments, exercise prescriptions, patient responses, progress, interventions, and education in accordance with established clinical, regulatory, and departmental requirements. 

• Supports the operation and continuous improvement of cardiovascular rehabilitation and exercise programs, including equipment safety, emergency preparedness, quality initiatives, program outcomes, and other assigned clinical or administrative activities. 

• May perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Light Work | Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of force is greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

• The Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes.

• The Employee is subject to inside environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
