The Opportunity
An institutional healthcare organization is seeking a Licensed Clinical Psychologist to provide psychological assessment, treatment, crisis intervention, and ongoing mental health services within a correctional environment.
The Psychologist will work as part of an interdisciplinary mental health and healthcare team, supporting individuals with a wide range of behavioral and psychological needs.
This role requires a current unrestricted Minnesota psychology license, doctoral-level education, relevant clinical experience, and the ability to provide effective care within a structured institutional setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychological screenings and clinical assessments using available records, interviews, and other relevant clinical information.
- Evaluate psychological functioning and identify appropriate mental health treatment needs.
- Develop, implement, and modify individualized psychological treatment plans.
- Provide psychological counseling and therapeutic interventions appropriate to individual patient needs.
- Provide mental health assessment and crisis intervention services.
- Apply appropriate confrontation-avoidance and de-escalation approaches during behavioral or psychological crises.
- Conduct clinical rounds in segregation and other confined housing environments to assess adjustment and mental health treatment needs.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, social workers, mental health professionals, educational personnel, security staff, chaplain services, and other appropriate stakeholders.
- Gather and communicate clinical information necessary to support coordinated treatment and continuity of care.
- Assess changes in psychological condition and behavioral functioning.
- Apply established psychological counseling theories, methods, and treatment techniques.
- Provide timely clinical guidance during after-hours incidents and emergencies when required.
- Maintain appropriate professional and clinical standards in an institutional healthcare setting.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice psychology in the State of Minnesota.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience.
- At least 1 year of experience in a comparable clinical position.
- Valid driver's license.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Strong psychological assessment and clinical interviewing skills.
- Experience developing and implementing individualized mental health treatment plans.
- Ability to provide crisis assessment and psychological intervention.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary clinical and institutional teams.
- Willingness and ability to work on-site within a correctional or detention environment.
Preferred Experience
- Previous professional experience within a correctional or detention center environment.
Candidate Profile
The strongest candidate will be a licensed psychologist with solid clinical assessment and treatment experience who is comfortable providing care in a structured institutional environment.
This individual should be capable of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare and operational teams while maintaining strong professional judgment during routine clinical care, behavioral crises, and emergency situations.
Work Arrangement
This is a full-time, on-site opportunity based in Appleton, Minnesota. Candidates must be able to commute to the facility or relocate for the position.
The role involves providing mental health services within a correctional or detention environment housing both male and female populations.
