This role is based in one of APAC location (Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai). Please note that Boston Scientific does not offer relocation support for this position. Applicants should be based in, or have valid work authorization for this location.

Purpose Statement:

The Regional Medical Affairs Lead for Interventional Oncology will be based in either one of the APAC markets (Korea, Japan or China) and acts as regional medical affairs leader responsible for developing and executing medical strategies that advance clinical adoption and scientific leadership for IO devices from Boston Scientific. This role serves as the subject matter expert in liver-directed therapies and hepatobiliary oncology, partnering closely with Clinical, Marketing, Regulatory, Health Economics, Commercial, and Field Medical teams to generate evidence, disseminate scientific data, and translate medical insights into business strategies.

The successful candidate will provide strategic medical leadership, influence evidence generation priorities, and lead medical education initiatives while ensuring scientific integrity and compliance across all medical activities.

Responsibilities:

Medical Strategy & Scientific Leadership

  • Develop and execute regional medical affairs strategies aligned with global medical and business objectives for IO portfolio.
  • Serve as the scientific expert for interventional oncology, and liver cancer management.
  • Translate emerging clinical evidence into compelling scientific narratives and actionable medical strategies.
  • Identify evidence gaps and contribute to evidence generation plans, investigator-sponsored studies, registries, and publication strategies.

Evidence Generation & Scientific Communication

  • Develop medical messaging, scientific content, educational materials, slide decks, FAQs, and standard medical responses.
  • Lead scientific data dissemination through congresses, advisory boards, publications, webinars, and educational programs.
  • Evaluate emerging literature and competitive data to assess impact on medical strategy and business decisions.
  • Review promotional and non-promotional materials to ensure scientific accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Medical Insights & Cross-functional Leadership

  • Lead the collection, analysis, and interpretation of medical insights from MSLs, healthcare professionals, and scientific engagements.
  • Translate field insights into recommendations that inform evidence generation, medical strategy, upstream marketing, and lifecycle management.
  • Provide strategic scientific support to Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Health Economics, and Marketing.
  • Lead medical planning for key product launches, indication expansions, and regional strategic initiatives.

External Scientific Engagement

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), investigators, professional societies, and academic institutions.
  • Lead scientific advisory boards, expert meetings, and educational programs.
  • Represent Medical Affairs at national, regional, and international scientific meetings.

Leadership

  • Lead and support Medical Science Liaisons in executing regional medical strategies and scientific exchange activities.
  • Provide coaching, scientific guidance, and informal mentorship to junior Medical Affairs colleagues.
  • Drive collaboration across regional and global cross-functional teams to achieve strategic objectives.

Compliance

  • Ensure all medical activities comply with applicable regulations, company policies, and industry ethical standards.
  • Maintain high standards of scientific integrity and patient-centric decision making.

Requirements:

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent advanced scientific degree in medicine, pharmacy, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, or related healthcare roles.
  • Strong clinical background in one or more of the following areas:
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Hepatology
  • Hepatic Surgery
  • Medical Oncology (with liver cancer expertise preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience translating scientific evidence into medical strategy.
  • Experience engaging with Key Opinion Leaders and leading scientific exchange.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research methodology, evidence generation, and publication planning.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient and Fluent spoken and written English.

Additional / Preferred requirements

  • Experience with interventional oncology, liver-directed therapies, embolotherapy, nuclear medicine, or radioembolization.
  • Commercial experience in Marketing or Sales within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed, global organization.
  • Proficiency in one or more Asian languages, including Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, or Korean.
  • Experience supporting regional or global product launches.
