About this opportunity
We are looking for a creative and driven researcher to help shape the future of mobile networks used by billions of people worldwide. In this role, you will join Ericsson Research and work in close collaboration with the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Core Network Working Groups, playing a key role in defining the next generation of mobile networks in 6G standardization.
Our Core Network activities span all major 3GPP Core Network standardization Working Groups, including:
- SA (Service and System Aspects)
- SA2 – overall 3GPP system architecture
- SA6 – application-layer architecture specifications for 3GPP verticals
- CT (Core Network and Terminals) Working Groups
- CT1 – User Equipment (UE) to Core Network interfaces
- CT3 – interworking between a 3GPP Core Network and external networks
- CT4 – protocols within the Core Network

What you will do
- Create, research, and develop novel concepts, solutions, and algorithms for future mobile Core Networks and 6G architectures
- Validate concepts through simulations, system models, prototypes, and proof-of-concept implementations
- Protect new technical solutions through Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), and contribute to research articles and technical reports
- Act as a researcher and/or delegate in 3GPP standardization, authoring and presenting contributions at relevant Working Group meetings
- Represent Ericsson in external collaborations, including universities, national and European research projects, and customer engagements
- Provide deep expertise that influences Ericsson business, portfolio, and products on our journey to 6G and beyond
- Communicate research results, insights, and recommendations effectively to stakeholders across Ericsson
The skills you will bring
- MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Preferably with specialization in Networking and Communication, Network Automation, or Exposure
- A PhD, including an ongoing PhD study, in one of the above areas and/or substantial experience in standardization work would be a strong advantage.Curiosity and strong interest in working with 3GPP Core Network standardization
- Solid knowledge of mobile networks and good industry understanding (4G/5G, Core Network architectures, protocols, and interfaces)
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
- Outstanding networking, collaboration, communication, and innovation skills, combined with high energy and motivation
- Strong analytical thinking paired with creativity and the ability to explore and articulate new ideas
- Proven ability to acquire and apply new knowledge quickly, and to share and transfer knowledge to others
- Knowledge of AI/ML-assisted network tools and methodologies is an advantage
