Description
Leverage your Data Engineering expertise
Shape data quality, governance and strategy
Work across modern cloud data platforms
See Yourself in the Team
As part of the Retail Banking Services (RBS) Data Office, you'll join a growing team helping shape how data is managed, governed and consumed across one of Australia's largest banking portfolios.
What makes this team different is its technical foundation. Many of our people come from Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering and technology backgrounds and understand how data is created, transformed and consumed in modern environments.
Rather than sitting separately from delivery teams, you'll work alongside engineers, architects, product, risk and business stakeholders to embed good data management into the way solutions are designed and delivered.
This is an opportunity to stay close to technology while expanding your influence across data quality, governance, strategy and business outcomes.
Your Impact & Contribution
This role is ideal for Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers and other technical data professionals who want to broaden their impact beyond building data solutions. You'll use your technical expertise to help shape how trusted data is governed, managed and consumed at scale. At its core, your role is to help teams create trusted, well-managed data that can be confidently used across products, teams and business decisions. You'll:
Partner with engineering, architecture, product and business teams to embed data governance into technical solutions.
Influence data design decisions and help improve data quality, controls and long-term usability.
Manage the lifecycle of Data Products and Data Assets, ensuring they are discoverable, reusable and appropriately documented.
Use your technical background to understand data flows, review solution designs and support effective governance controls.
Define and improve metadata, lineage, classifications and business context.
Support data modernisation and improvements in how data is stored, managed and consumed.
Facilitate conversations between data producers and consumers to achieve practical, sustainable outcomes.
Help create trusted data foundations that support better decisions and emerging AI capabilities.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone who combines technical credibility with strong stakeholder influence. You'll ideally bring:
- Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Data Platform Engineering or another technical data discipline.
- Strong understanding of how data is sourced, transformed, integrated and consumed.
- Experience developing and maintaining data pipelines, ETL processes and automated data workflows.
- Strong SQL and data querying capability.
- Experience using Python for data processing, data acquisition, automation or analytics workloads.
- Exposure to cloud data platforms such as AWS, Snowflake or similar.
- The ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience or exposure to data governance, data quality, metadata, lineage or data management practices will be highly regarded, but is not essential. We're particularly interested in technical data professionals looking to broaden their skills across governance and data management.
If This Sounds Like You
You'll be technically credible, naturally collaborative and motivated by solving complex data challenges.
For experienced engineers and technical data professionals looking to broaden their career beyond pure technical delivery, this is an opportunity to help shape how trusted data is managed and used across CommBank.
