Summary/ ObjectiveThe Crew Leader I – Turnaround Group is responsible for leading and coordinating small to mid-sized field crews during refinery and petrochemical turnarounds, shutdowns, and outages. This position provides front-line leadership for the safe, efficient, and timely execution of industrial cleaning services, including hydro blasting, vacuum operations, tank cleaning, and other related services. The Crew Leader I directs daily field activities, assigns work, monitors crew performance, and ensures personnel, equipment, and resources are effectively utilized to meet demanding turnaround schedules. Serving as the primary link between Equipment Operators and Field Supervisors, this role communicates job priorities, safety expectations, work progress, equipment needs, and changing field conditions while helping resolve issues that could affect safety, quality, productivity, or schedule. Success in this position requires strong hands-on leadership, effective communication, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain crew productivity and accountability in fast-paced, high-risk turnaround environments. All work must be performed in accordance with company and customer procedures, safety standards, contractual requirements, and applicable environmental regulations. The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in industrial services, oil and gas, petrochemical, or a related industry. The Crew Leader I must also have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to support turnaround projects and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

Lead and direct daily activities of assigned crews during turnaround operations.2. Execute work scopes including, but not limited to, hydro blasting (automated and semi-automated), vacuum truck and solids removal, tank cleaning and degassing, and heat exchanger and line cleaning.3. Ensure work is performed according to job plans, procedures, and supervisor direction.4. Maintain work pace and crew productivity to meet turnaround schedules and milestones.5. Step in hands-on when needed to support critical or time-sensitive tasks.6. Enforce strict adherence to company safety standards, OSHA regulations, and site-specific requirements.7. Conduct and participate in pre-job briefings, JSAs/JHAs, and toolbox talks.8. Ensure crew compliance with PPE requirements, confined space entry procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and line breaking protocols.9. Monitor work areas for hazards and take immediate action to correct unsafe conditions.10. Report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns to the Field Supervisor promptly.11. Ensure all work is performed correctly the first time to avoid rework or delays.12. Monitor job progress and communicate completion status and obstacles.13. Maintain quality standards under high -pressure turnaround timelines.14. Help coordinate sequencing of tasks to align with other contractors and trades.15. Lead, motivate, and hold crew members accountable for performance and behavior.16. Train new and existing employees on equipment, procedures, and safety expectations.17. Ensure proper staffing levels and assist with shift transitions (day/night crews).18. Manage crew fatigue and maintain safe working conditions during extended shifts.19. Oversee proper setup, operation, and shutdown of industrial cleaning equipment.20. Ensure equipment is inspected before use and remains in safe working conditions.21. Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and escalate major problems.22. Ensure proper hose management, pressure control, and safe hydro blasting practices.23. Maintain daily communication with Field Supervisors and site leadership.24. Relay job assignments, changes in scope, and client directives to crew members.25. Coordinate activities with other contractor crews to avoid delays and congestion.26. Participate in shift turnover meetings and provide clear status updates.27. Assist with daily reporting, including, but not limited to, crew hours and attendance, equipment usage, and job progress updates (documented hourly).28. Ensure work permits, safety documentation, and checklists are properly followed.29. Maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and focus while working under compressed schedules, changing priorities, adverse conditions, and other demands common to turnaround environments.30. Attend and successfully complete all training, certifications, orientations, and other requirements established by the Company or customer.31. Meet all applicable Company and customer requirements, including required drug and alcohol testing and background screening.32. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position will have some supervisory responsibilities.

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a petrochechemical / refinery environment. Exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months. Exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. All employees will be required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The position of a Crew Leader I – Turnaround Group can be extremely physical at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, and for long periods of time to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity. A Crew Leader I – Turnaround Group will frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 51 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to work at heights and be able to climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms. Move about on hands and feet, bending body downward and forward bending leg and spine- working in a bent over position. Ability to verbally communicate alarms or warnings clearly, concisely, loudly, and quickly. Clearly and quickly hear or otherwise sense alarms or warning and take appropriate action, maintain equilibrium to prevent falling when moving, walking, standing, kneeling or crouching- particularly on narrow, uneven, irregular, slippery surfaces, going up and down ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles or other objects using hands, arms, feet or legs. Position Type/ Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent. Over-time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.

TravelTravel is expected. Extensive travel throughout U.S. and overnight stay for extended periods of time may be required of this position.

Qualifications

Required Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GED. Three or more years of experience in industrial cleaning within refining, petrochemical, or oil and gas facilities. Prior experience of leading crews or acting as a senior technician. Strong hands-on experience with hydro blasting, vacuum services, and industrial cleaning equipment. Experience working turnarounds or shutdowns. Must have a valid TWIC and valid Driver’s License. Safety Essentials.

Preferred Education and ExperienceOSHA 10 or 30, NCCER, Confined Space Entry certification, HAZWOPER (24 or 40), hydro blasting certification (WJTA).
