Position Summary 

The Operations Supervisor leads an assigned distribution team and is accountable for safe, accurate, and timely picking, packing, shipping, and related inventory work. This is an active floor-leadership role requiring regular observation of work, employee interaction, data-based labor decisions, coaching, problem-solving, and timely follow-through. This position also works with a warehouse management system (WMS) that uses interconnected rules to control carton selection, box and order compatibility, item and location eligibility, zone allocation, and inventory movement. Success requires more than basic system use. The supervisor must understand how these rules work together, recognize when system results do not appear correct, and investigate the cause before making changes. 

Essential Responsibilities 

• Maintain a visible presence in the operation; observe workflow, employee performance, procedure compliance, safety conditions, and developing backlogs. 
• Understand and apply interconnected WMS rules and configurations to speak to how it effects downstream operations.   
• Troubleshoot system and process issues recognizing when problems or workflow behaviors indicate an issue with item setup, location controls, cartonization, zone, inventory allocation, or other connected processes within the WMS  
• Use workload and productivity data to determine staffing needs, balance labor across picking zones, packing, and shipping, and coordinate approved overtime when needed. 
• Investigate order errors and recurring problems, identify contributing factors, implement practical corrective actions, and verify that actions are completed and effective. 
• Anticipate how labor changes in one area will affect downstream work to prevent significant backlogs. 
• Balance productivity flow, order completion, accuracy, service, and cost while maintaining safety, quality, and procedural requirements. 
• Partner with Sales Operations through the established bi-weekly review process. Report the issue, contributing factors, corrective action, and progress toward reducing recurrence. 
• Implement approved training and cross-training plans. Verify that employees can perform assigned work safely and correctly before documenting qualification as complete. 
• Coordinate with inventory and other departments to remove barriers, correct inventory concerns, and complete orders. 
• Lead practical 5S and process improvements and verify that improvements are sustained. 
• Direct employees, assign work, communicate expectations, provide coaching, conduct trainings and address attendance, conduct, safety, procedure, and performance concerns. Initiate or recommend corrective action in accordance with company policy and in partnership with Human Resources when required. 
• Organize and track assignments, employee matters, training, and corrective actions. Communicate risks or delays before deadlines and provide an effective shift handoff. 
• Investigate unfamiliar problems using available data, procedures, systems, and resources. Act within assigned authority and escalate unresolved issues promptly with relevant facts and recommended next steps.

• Systems Thinking: Uses knowledge of interconnected WMS rules, cartonization, labor, inventory, systems, picking, packing, location controls, item controls, and shipping to consider downstream effects of changing any of these attributes.  

• Judgment: Makes timely decisions using facts, data, procedures, and operational knowledge while considering the impact on other areas and supervisors. 

• Respect: Provides updates without being prompted, communicates risks early, and closes the loop with affected groups. 

• Collaboration: Addresses concerns promptly, consistently, and respectfully. 
  

Required Qualifications 

• Experience leading employees or coordinating team workflow in distribution, warehousing, fulfillment, manufacturing, or a comparable operating environment. 

• Experience learning, retaining, and correctly applying complex system rules and interconnected operating processes.  organizing and retaining detailed systems knowledge, use documentation effectively, and continue learning as system processes and configurations change. 

• Experience adjusting labor or priorities based on changing workload in a fast paced environment. 

• Ability to interpret operational data, investigate problems, and make timely decisions. 

• Ability to coach employees, communicate expectations, document concerns, and follow through on commitments. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work across departments. 

• Working knowledge of Excel or comparable reporting tools and the ability to learn company systems. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Supervisory experience in a high-volume pick, pack, and ship operation. 

• Experience with labor planning, warehouse systems, 5S, root-cause analysis, corrective action, or employee training.
  

Physical Requirements

This position works in an active warehouse and regularly requires movement throughout a large operating area, observation of workflow and safety conditions, communication with employees, and use of computers and company systems.
