Senior Remediation Engineer

Leidos is seeking a Senior Remediation Engineer to serve as a technical lead for a diverse portfolio of federal environmental remediation projects. The role will support CERCLA and RCRA investigations, feasibility studies/corrective measures studies, decision documents, remedial design/remedial action (RD/RA), long-term monitoring and operations, and environmental compliance activities. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and develop solutions to complex environmental remediation and regulatory challenges. This role regularly interfaces with Leidos leadership, program and project managers, and senior technical staff across multiple offices, as well as clients and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and the public. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder groups.

This position may be performed remotely within the United States, subject to Leidos remote-work eligibility requirements, or based onsite in Reston, VA, or Twinsburg, OH.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Define project requirements and technical objectives and lead multidisciplinary project teams.
• Direct and support development of project work plans and technical deliverables, including Project Management Plans (PMPs), Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) reports and cost estimates, Proposed Plans (PPs), Records of Decision (RODs), remedial design packages (30%, 60%, 90%, and 100% submittals), Remedial Design/Remedial Action Work Plans (RD/RAWPs), and related technical documents.
• Develop exit strategies and solutions for complex technical and regulatory challenges.
• Support proposal development, including technical solutions, management approaches, risk mitigation strategies, and bases of estimate.
• Mentor and develop junior engineering staff in the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of remediation systems.
• Ensure compliance with Leidos and client environmental, quality, and health and safety requirements.
• Prepare and present technical findings and recommendations to clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
• Travel to project locations as needed for client and stakeholder meetings, site visits, and other project activities.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline and at least 12 years relevant environmental experience, or a Master's degree and at least 10 years.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations, including CERCLA and RCRA.
• Experience evaluating, designing, or implementing remedial technologies, including in-situ soil and groundwater treatment, groundwater extraction and treatment, thermal treatment, soil vapor extraction, air sparging, dual-phase extraction, permeable reactive barriers, excavation, capping, stabilization, dredging/sediment remediation, and monitored natural attenuation.
• Experience addressing contaminants including PFAS, VOCs, SVOCs, explosives, metals, PCBs, and pesticides/herbicides.
• Experience engaging with local, state, and federal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
• Experience developing or supporting technical, management, and cost/price proposals.
• Experience authoring peer-reviewed technical publications and white papers and presenting at technical conferences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Valid driver’s license.

Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $116,350.00 - $210,325.00
