EMT Academy Instructor  

 

$26-$40/hr. starting rate, based on experience

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The EMT Academy Instructor is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating educational programs for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students at AMR Rochester. This position provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to ensure students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary to provide safe and effective prehospital patient care.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Deliver Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) curriculum in accordance to NYS DOH and organizational standards.
• Ensure timely submission of all program materials, reports and documentation in accordance with NYS DOH requirements and deadlines.

• Develop and implement lesson plans, instructional materials, and student assessments.

• Facilitate classroom lectures, practical skill sessions, simulations and scenario-based training.

• Evaluate student performance in all three domains (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective) through written examinations, skills testing, and clinical field evaluations.

• Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, performance, and educational activities.

• Provide timely feedback, coaching, and remediation to students as needed.

• Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and professional growth.
• Coordinate with the scheduling department to facilitate student ride time experiences and secure qualified laboratory instructors.

• Maintain competency in EMS education practices, clinical standards, and current evidence-based patient care.

• Participate in curriculum review, program improvement initiatives, and instructor development activities as assigned.

• Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

• Maintains examination security through monitoring all exams and securing evaluation tools under lock and key (or electronic equivalent). 

• Remains current with State and local EMS and accreditation requirements, policies, and procedures. 

• Maintains and administers NYS CME recertification program per AMR’s recertification agreement.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Assists in other tasks managed within the clinical department, as assigned. (field training, other training courses, investigations, quality assurance, etc.).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education/Licensing/Certification: 

• Current NYS Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC), preferred.
• Current NYS EMT certification (or higher), required.

Experience: 

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a field/clinical setting as an EMT-B or higher, required.

• Experience with curriculum development and program management, preferred.

• Previous experience teaching EMS, healthcare, or public safety courses, preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: 

• Maintain competency in modern instructional technologies, including learning management systems and virtual learning tools. (Jones and Barlett)
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams)
• Thorough knowledge of EMS operations, protocols, and standards of care.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Effective leadership, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills.
