Shift Operating Engineer
Department: Operations
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Clifty Creek
Reporting To: Designated Supervisor
Compensation: $11,549 - $12,157 / month
Description
Responsible for the application of professional engineering knowledge to assure the safe and efficient operation of the company’s bulk electric facilities; analyze information to find solutions to engineering problems or make recommendations to improve facilities or procedures.
Expected to align personal goals with the Mission, Vision, and Values of OVEC/IKEC.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, direct, train, schedule and coordinate the work of departmental employees.
Develop an organization with a sophisticated understanding of plant operation and the ability to make good business recommendations that maximize production while preserving the long-term production capability of plant assets.
Provide recommendations for the repair and/or replacement of critical components to reduce plant EFOR, improve availability and maintain environmental compliance.
In close coordination with other departments, authorize or reject clearances on plant operating equipment determining effect on plant operation; ascertain equipment changes or operation involved; coordinate activities with personnel concerned.
Perform frequent audits of the Clearance Permit Program (SOMS) to ensure the procedures are being followed. In addition, facilitate evaluations of the adequacy of specific isolation designs; effect appropriate changes as required.
Become acquainted, at the start of an assigned shift, with newly issued instructions, plant operating conditions, load schedules and related matters; assure that all assisting personnel concerned are advised.
Assume direction of activities of the entire plant on an assigned shift in the absence of the Plant Manager and Operations and Maintenance Managers.
Direct the preparation and maintenance of professional quality logs, records, reports; issue special operating instructions as required.
Administer prescribed Company personnel policies and practices; make recommendations pertaining to changes in job duties of maintenance employees.
Recommend and carry out appropriate measures of discipline of employees under direct supervision.
Investigate causes of complaint; assist with personal problems, if requested.
Keep informed of the latest practices and procedures with regard to the development of plant equipment, its design and operation and consistently apply these to ensure efficiency and economy in the operation of the department.
Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal and state safety laws and regulations, and all applicable company safety rules and operating procedures; when supervising others, assure that safe work practices are followed and conduct safety meetings; make suggestions for the improvement of the safety program and encourage others to do so.
Responsible for maintaining proper housekeeping of the units and associated plant areas.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Appropriate leadership and technical experience satisfactory to Company needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ten (10) years of power plant experience with four (4) years of Operations Supervisor experience.
