Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt Park is looking for a friendly, dependable Camp Host. Surround yourself with nature while helping make campers' stays memorable. Nestled in the northeast part of Polk County, Iowa, Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt Campground encompasses more than 9,000 acres of prairie, timber, and wetland, offering a beautiful setting for camping, hiking, and wildlife watching. Other perks include a free campsite separate from the main campground with full hookups.
Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt
Under the general supervision of the Parks Supervisor or their designee, assists in a variety of duties at an assigned campground, including custodial responsibilities, firewood sales, communication with the public, and routine maintenance of Polk County Conservation Board facilities.
- Clean and stock multiple facilities inside the park, including restrooms and shower houses.
- Assist with ensuring campers have registered and paid for their camp sites through MyCounty Parks.com orders.
- Effectively communicate and answer questions from the public related to park rules, park amenities, things to do, etc.
- Assists in routine maintenance of facilities, i.e., shelter facilities, buildings, recreational equipment, picnic tables, grills, etc., and maintains a clean and well-organized registration booth.
- Sell firewood during posted hours.
- Remove unburnt trash from fire rings.
- Ensures Park brochure displays are filled and available.
- Report maintenance and repair issues to full-time Parks employees.
- Observe and report park rules and local, state, and federal law violations to Park Rangers.
- On occasion, assist campers with a manual registration and payment process.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel.
- Knowledge of money handling and keeping cash logs.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to operate a computer, web portals, and electronic forms, and have basic keyboarding skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to consistently demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and tact in interactions with members of the public.
- Ability to deal with difficult people, handle complaints, and display good listening skills.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Iowa.
- Complete all assigned training within the assigned deadlines.
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Criminal background checks are required
- Must provide copies of personal campers' insurance policy to Polk County Conservation human resources at each renewal period.
- A drug screen may be required.
