Description
NorthMark Compute & Cloud (NMC²) is backed by dedicated leadership and investment, with a clear mission as it operates at the bleeding edge of technology. Its goal is to scale and enhance the high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud infrastructure that supports its clients' research, production, and delivery, enabling breakthroughs that shape the industries of tomorrow. Its engineers build critical infrastructure to eliminate friction in scientific research, simulations, analysis, and decision-making, accelerating discovery and driving faster innovation.
Engineering Intern Program
This is a 10-week, full-time summer internship based in Dallas, Texas, running from June to August.
As an intern at NMC², you’ll join a high-performing team and work on impactful projects across areas such as software engineering, infrastructure automation, compute platforms, and network security. You'll contribute to production-level systems, collaborate with experienced engineers, and gain hands-on exposure to the tools and practices used in managing high-performance, scalable infrastructure.
Interns are integrated into agile development workflows, participate in code reviews and technical discussions, and are given meaningful responsibilities with guidance and mentorship throughout the program.
Learn more about the hiring teams below:
Product: Our Product team shapes the direction of NMC2’s products and services. By bringing together customer insights, market research and business context we develop the long-term roadmaps and then collaborate with teams across the business - in particular Engineering - to turn them into reality, partnering with our customers to deliver the best outcomes for them and our organization. This internship is designed for students or early-career professionals who are considering a career in product management and want practical experience in shaping products that deliver real impact. You will work closely with experienced product managers, contributing to live projects while learning how to balance customer needs, technical feasibility and business priorities.
Security Engineering: Security Engineering Team: Our team exists at the intersection of security, infrastructure and software engineering. It ensures secure development practices are embedded from the ground up. As a Security Engineering intern, you’ll work alongside engineers across the business to help improve how we detect, manage and reduce software security risks. You’ll contribute to making secure development seamless and intuitive, supporting automated security scanning, improving developer tooling and investigating real-world vulnerabilities in code and infrastructure. This internship offers practical, hands-on experience for students looking to build a career in cybersecurity, DevOps or secure software engineering.
AI Engineering: The AI Engineering and Enablement team is charged with ensuring that the organization has access to the AI related tooling and capabilities that allow for the every team within the organization to build applications, agents, and infrastructure that incorporates AI elements and solutions. This mandate means that we deploy and maintain the path through which every person and application reaches AI inferencing services, work with teams across the organization to develop applications that incorporate AI based judgement, and develop and deploy on-premise models (both fine tuned and OW/OSS).
Fleet Automation: The Fleet Automation team builds applications and automation for a large-scale HPC environment, working across data center infrastructure, storage, networking, Kubernetes, and workload scheduling. In 2027, we will focus on solutions that improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of our organization. Interns and new graduates will work alongside experienced engineers on meaningful production projects, gaining hands-on experience across the full development lifecycle. Our technology stack includes Temporal, Go, Python, C#, and TypeScript, and our work supports GPU platforms spanning NVIDIA V100 through GB300. This team is an excellent fit for candidates who are excited about AI, HPC, automation, and solving complex infrastructure challenges at scale.
Network Automation: Our Network Automation team is responsible for building the software platform behind NMC2's global network infrastructure — the tools, services, and frameworks that enable scalable, reliable, and self-service networking. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience on real-world automation projects that transform how our networks are deployed, operated, and observed at scale. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to develop code, automation workflows, and CI/CD pipelines that directly impact how our research and compute environments run, working with technologies like Python, Kubernetes, Neo4j, and modern cloud-native tooling. We're also an AI-forward team — we use Claude to help build, manage, and evolve our platform, so you'll learn how to work alongside AI agents to ship faster. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow as a software engineer while mastering networking fundamentals, giving you exposure to the future of large-scale network engineering.
Data Engineering: The Data Engineering & Analytics team builds and operates a secure, governed, and scalable enterprise data platform that enables analytics, AI, applications, and business reporting across the organization. Our work includes batch and real-time data engineering, streaming platforms, cloud and on-premises data architecture, data quality, governance, metadata, and publishing trusted, reusable data products. Interns and new graduates will gain hands-on experience with modern technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Flink, Apache Iceberg, Trino, Python, SQL, Terraform and infrastructure automation while working alongside experienced engineers on meaningful enterprise use cases. We are looking for curious, collaborative individuals who enjoy solving complex data problems, learning emerging technologies, and building solutions that deliver measurable business value.
Service Management: Our Service Management team is the operational backbone that keeps NMC²'s global HPC and cloud infrastructure running reliably; owning the incident, change, and problem processes, the service catalogue, and the tooling (Jira Service Management, Confluence, and Jira Assets) that engineering teams depend on every day. As an intern, you'll work at the intersection of process design, service automation, and AI-assisted operations, contributing to projects that use automation and AI to improve how services are delivered, monitored, and resolved at scale. You'll gain hands-on exposure to enterprise ITSM practice and ITIL frameworks while working alongside experienced practitioners in a live, high-performance compute environment.
