Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is a 100% employee-owned environmental consulting firm. We plan, design, permit, mitigate, and restore for projects across our communities, infrastructure systems, open spaces, and wildlands. We are 50 years strong in 21 offices across California, the Pacific Northwest, and the Southeastern United States.

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is actively seeking On-Call Archaeological Field Technicians in Nevada area who are familiar with working on active construction sites; conducting archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery fieldwork; and completing IMAC forms or are knowledgeable of archaeological materials common to the region. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of one year of field experience or relative academic field experience in Nevada.  You live within a commutable distance to projects in Nevada and are also open and willing to travel for various projects requiring overnight stays in hotels, if needed.

 

Who You Are 

  • You are an effective team member experienced in archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, surveys and documentation of archaeological, and/or paleontological resources in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines and requirements.
  • You live within a commutable distance for various projects based in Nevada.
  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in archaeology/anthropology/paleontology/geology or related field. You have a demonstrated ability to use app-based software for field recordation and mapping.
  • Qualified candidates must be open to travel as needed for projects and site visits.  Mileage and travel reimbursements will be provided consistent with the project contract.
  • You enjoy fieldwork and can walk long distances carrying a backpack; and are able to lift at least 50 pounds. Candidates should be confident working outside, in remote and rural settings, as well as in urban environments. Physical outdoor work may include, but may not be limited to, work in all types of weather, traversing uneven ground and sometimes steep terrain in forested environments, fields, arid lands, along stream banks, and in coastal/intertidal areas. Some night and/or weekend work may be required.  You can work some nights and/or weekends.  You may participate in compliance monitoring and reporting activities for on-going construction projects; you will work near heavy equipment.
  • You possess a valid driver’s license and have experience driving 4 wheel-drive vehicles off-road.

 

What You Will Do for ESA

ESA is looking for on-call archaeological field technicians to support field projects in Nevada. Qualified candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform all aspects of archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring and familiarity working on construction sites, coordinating with construction personnel, and interacting with Native American monitors. Successful candidates will fulfill the following duties:

  • Monitor construction activities and identify archaeological and/or paleontological resources
  • Effectively communicate with construction crews and project personnel
  • Write and maintain written daily survey, monitoring, recordation, and cataloging logs, including utilizing electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications
  • Other Ad-hoc tasks as needed

ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position, the range is approximately as listed based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, skills, and the city in which the applicant lives.
