Paint Department Supervisor

The Role

Leads and coordinates paint activities across vessel projects to ensure that all surface preparation and painting works are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Damen quality standards, project specifications, client requirements, and production schedules.

Supervises shipyard and subcontractor paint teams, coordinates daily paint operations, monitors quality and progress, and works closely with Project Management, Production, Quality, and other relevant departments to ensure the timely and successful completion of painting activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate surface preparation and painting activities across ongoing vessel projects.
  • Plan, organize, and monitor paint activities in line with project schedules, production priorities, and quality requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate shipyard paint teams and subcontractor personnel.
  • Ensure all painting activities are carried out in accordance with Damen quality standards, work instructions, drawings, paint specifications, and project requirements.
  • Monitor the quality of surface preparation and paint application and ensure that required inspections and quality records are completed.
  • Coordinate activities before, during, and after paint application to ensure an efficient workflow and timely completion.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Production, Quality, and other relevant departments to align project and production requirements.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and take appropriate action to resolve quality, productivity, or operational issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to paint teams and subcontractors regarding workmanship, application methods, and required quality standards.
  • Ensure the proper and efficient use of paint materials, equipment, machinery, and hand tools.
  • Support the onboarding, orientation, and training of new employees within the department.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and efficient working environment within paint production areas.
  • Promote team motivation, cooperation, and effective communication within the department.
  • Identify operational issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to paint processes, productivity, quality, and work organization.
  • Ensure all painting activities are performed in compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
  • Develop and implement effective working methods to improve quality, efficiency, and on-time project delivery.
  • Coordinate and support inspections performed by third-party paint/coating inspectors and client representatives throughout all stages of surface preparation and painting activities.
  • Review, follow up on, and ensure the timely closure of findings, observations, and non-conformities raised during paint/coating inspections in coordination with relevant departments.
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute inspection reports, quality records, corrective action reports, and other relevant documentation related to painting activities.
  • Ensure all paint inspection and quality documentation is complete, accurate, traceable, and available in accordance with project, client, and classification society requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical or engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience in the shipbuilding industry is mandatory; candidates without shipbuilding experience will not be considered.
  • Relevant paint/coating training or certification is preferred.
  • AMPP Certified Coatings Inspector (CIP Level 2) certification is preferred (formerly NACE CIP / SSPC PCI).
  • Hands-on experience in coordinating surface preparation, paint application, and related quality control activities.
  • Experience in supervising production teams and/or subcontractors.
  • Experience working with third-party paint/coating inspectors and client representatives.
  • Good technical understanding of surface preparation, paint application processes, coating systems, inspection requirements, and production practices.
  • Ability to review, prepare, and manage technical inspection reports, quality documentation, non-conformities, and corrective action records.
  • Strong leadership, planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills, with the ability to clearly communicate inspection findings and required corrective actions.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a strong focus on quality, safety, productivity, and timely delivery.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic shipyard and production environment.
  • Good command of English is preferred.

  • Based in or willing to relocate to Antalya
  • Able to work actively within shipyard and production areas
