Description
New Hanover County is looking for a Fiscal Support Specialist to join the Tax Department. This role performs clerical accounting duties for various County expense and revenue accounts as assigned within the department.
- Serve as the first point of contact for the Tax Department, as well as other departments within the Government Center, providing centralized customer service.
- Tax Department payment processing
- Finance and Building Safety department’s walk-in payment processing
- Processing receipts and deposits for various county departments
- North Carolina Vehicle Tax System refund research and payments
- Payroll Deduction and Wage Garnishment Payments
- NHC Government Center Customer reporting
- Returned Mail processing
- Quality control for Tax Collections division
- Delinquent Tax Research and Collections
- Managing and distributing county issued checks
- Assists the Fiscal Support Supervisor and or Collection Supervisor in the overall needs of Tax Collections
- Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances; federal and state tax guidelines; office practices and procedures; basic math; record keeping procedures; accounting principles; billing and property systems; financial software applications.
Skilled in operating computer hardware and software applications; operating various office machines; preparing various reports; interpreting financial information; maintaining inventories; providing customer service; maintaining effective work relationships; communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Salary Information:
The target hiring range for this position is $40,048 to $54,064 The full salary range for an incumbent hired into this position is $40,048 to $68,081. Starting salary will be based on qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, and budget. Candidates with exceptional qualifications and experience may be considered for a starting salary above the target hiring range, but not to exceed the maximum of the salary range.

- Knowledge, skills, education, training, and experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the functions of the role and successfully perform the essential duties; and four (4) years of experience in a similar role or performing similar duties.
- Prior experience in banking or financial services is preferred.
