Description of Work
DNCR Human Resources is seeking an Employment Specialist to support the day-to-day administration of human resources programs for assigned departments. This position is located at the North Carolina Zoo. This position will coordinate recruitment and hiring activities for permanent and temporary employees; process onboarding, separations, and employee changes; assist with salary administration; review and process temporary employee timesheets; monitor temporary employee hours and employment periods; and provide benefits, leave, and time administration support. The position will work directly with supervisors and employees to answer questions, collect required documentation, resolve routine HR issues, and ensure HR transactions are completed accurately and timely.Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate recruitment and selection activities for permanent and temporary positions within assigned departments, including posting, screening, referral, and hiring processes.
• Assist with salary administration, hiring documentation, personnel actions, and employee changes in Workday and other HR systems.
• Coordinate onboarding and offboarding activities for permanent and temporary employees within assigned departments.
• Administer temporary employment processes, including direct-hire temporary employees and employees hired through temporary staffing resources.
• Provide guidance and assistance to employees and supervisors regarding HR policies, procedures, benefits, leave, time administration, and other employment-related matters.
• Review and process employee time and leave information, including temporary employee timesheets, and assist with audits and compliance monitoring.
• Crosstrain across HR functional areas and provide backup support for recruitment, benefits and leave, time administration, temporary employment, and other HR operations as needed.

Recruitment Range: $37,377-$56,000

Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources or relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution
and
1 year of experience required;
or
2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources;
or
Equivalent combination or education and experience.
Division Description
The Human Resources Office (HR) provides comprehensive human resources and safety services to all divisions throughout the agency. Current staffing is over 2,200 positions, plus seasonal/supplemental staffing. The core services include policy administration, employee relations, staff development, benefits, classification and compensation, recruitment and retention, salary administration, diversity and inclusion, performance management, safety and wellness. The HR office supports the mission of the agency by providing policy interpretation, processes, and staff development opportunities in all aspects of HR. The HR office strives to create efficient processes and services that utilize technology to enhance the processes and benefits available to employees as well as expand staff development.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
