CDL Full Time Spare Driver Position

Essential Job Duties
This position is a full-time driver position and employee must work 40 hours per week which may include nights and weekends. Key duties of the role:
Safely operate a motor vehicle, in accordance with all State and Federal traffic laws, while driving school-aged children.
Safely operate a variety of vehicles, including School buses, sedans, mini-vans, full size passenger vans, and wheelchair vans.
Safely assist students as needed. This includes helping them enter and exit the vehicle, using the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belts, and safely securing them in car seats and booster seats. Lifting may be required.
Monitor student behavior to provide appropriate guidance, feedback, and direction when necessary.
Report unsafe and inappropriate student behavior to management; follow directions and implement corrective steps as assigned.
Must demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills while using Van Pool’s two-way radio system.
Assigned duties and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Currently have a CDL license with active school bus certificate and maintain license throughout employment.
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in (English) with students, parents, teachers, and company employees.
Follow written and verbal directions and instructions from supervisors.
Willingness to work effectively with school age children with special needs.
Pass CORI, SORI, TB, fingerprint tests, Initial and random drug screenings.
Pass annual physical to obtain or renew a 7D School Pupil Transport License or CDL school bus certificate.
Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods of time.
Lift, push, pull, enter and exit the vehicle multiple times in order to conduct a thorough inspection for student safety.
Perform First Aid and CPR during training and during an actual emergency.
Complete a pre and post trip vehicle inspection which may include removing snow and ice from the vehicle during the winter weather.
Assist students on and off the van in the case of an emergency.
Position wheelchairs and safely install and secure wheelchair restraints.
Manually operate the wheelchair lift when necessary.
Must have the physical capability to safely install car seats and booster seats.
Full Time Driver Expectations
Must be willing to service a route at any location withing driving distance of home location.
The company will offer a vehicle for transportation to and from home base to any other location where a route is covered.
The employee will be compensated from the time they are told to report to the home location until they return
If the employee is staying at the temporary location for the day, they are expected to help the local operations with daily tasks.
Non-driving expectations: full time spare drivers are required to work 40 hours minimum. To accumulate 40 hours in a week they are required to perform other duties in addition to driving. Those include and are not limited to:
Shuttling vehicles or staff
Snow team
Parts and supplies pickup
Mail runs
Assisting maintenance with inspections
Training new drivers on routes
