A day in the life
The Solution Designer, MHE supports Prologis Essentials customers by developing warehouse and pallet racking designs that improve storage capacity, operational efficiency, and site functionality. The role works directly with customers to understand warehouse operations, storage requirements, productivity goals, and budgets, then translates those needs into detailed AutoCAD layouts and design proposals. This position partners with structural engineers, estimators, sales teams, project managers, vendors, and other design professionals to develop code-compliant solutions and support projects through permitting and handoff. The role also verifies site conditions and helps ensure design, pricing, and construction documentation are accurate and complete.
Key responsibilities include:
- Meet with customers to assess warehouse operations, storage requirements, productivity goals, budgets, and existing site conditions.
- Develop detailed AutoCAD warehouse layouts and pallet racking designs that address site access, operational needs, and applicable building, fire, egress, and safety requirements.
- Prepare material lists and coordinate with structural engineers, manufacturers, and vendors to support appropriate material selection, constructability, and cost-effective design solutions.
- Partner with estimation teams to distribute RFQs, develop pricing inputs, and support customer proposals that clearly communicate recommended solutions.
- Present design concepts to customers and provide technical support to Sales during customer meetings, reviews, and presentations.
- Prepare project handoff documentation, including fully dimensioned construction drawings, stamped drawing coordination, supporting consultant drawings, vendor quotations, and permit-submittal materials.
- Verify warehouse conditions and pallet racking materials onsite and communicate relevant design and project information to the Project Management team.
Building blocks for success
Required:
- 1+ years of experience in warehouse design, material handling design, warehouse optimization, or a similar role.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant design software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to apply structural engineering principles and material-selection considerations when developing or coordinating design solutions.
- Ability to communicate technical design concepts clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to organize multiple design activities, manage deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Industrial Engineering, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience designing pallet racking or material handling solutions.
- Familiarity with warehouse safety requirements, building codes, fire codes, and egress requirements.
- Experience coordinating with structural engineers, permitting professionals, sprinkler engineers, lighting consultants, or other third-party design partners.
- Demonstrates willingness and capability to leverage emerging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve efficiency, quality, and speed. Exercises sound judgment, creative thinking, and accountability for outcomes.
Hiring Salary Range of:
$106,000-140,000 Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target) to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
