Director, Regulatory Investigation Response (Fixed Term) – Sydney, Australia
The Director, Regulatory Investigation Response will lead internal coordination (from WUFSA and relevant global teams) in support of the AUSTRAC investigation and support the WUFSA Head of Compliance and AML/CTF Compliance Officer in managing the relationship with AUSTRAC and external counsel.
This role requires strong leadership to achieve organizational outcomes, emotional intelligence, strategic insight, and the ability to build and maintain relationships across WUFSA and WU global.
The role is a leadership position and will be supported by other individuals as required.
An opportunity to join Western Union’s Compliance Team on a full-time basis for a 24-month period.
Role Responsibilities:
Investigation Response Leadership & Coordination: Lead efforts in organizing and compiling complete and accurate documentation and information in response to the AUSTRAC investigation, collaborating with cross-functional teams (WUFSA and WU global) to ensure thorough preparation and execution.
Relationship Management: Act as the primary contact for WUFSA’s external counsel; support the WUFSA Head of Compliance and AML/CTF Compliance Officer in maintaining strong relationships and facilitating effective communication.
Risk Management: Identify and escalate risks to relevant internal stakeholders as early as feasible in the investigation process, leveraging detailed knowledge of internal processes and ecosystems. Work with relevant stakeholders to identify ways to help minimize risks in a timely manner. Identify and manage sensitive and legally privileged items with guidance and support from internal and external counsel.
Effective Communication: Deliver clear and concise explanations of investigation information and document findings to relevant stakeholders and provide periodic updates on investigation progress (including preparing and presenting reports to Board Directors, senior management and relevant governance forums), as may be required). Ability to lead sensitive and outcome-based communication.

Role Requirements
At least 10+ years of senior leadership experience leading teams, functions, and strategic initiatives, with a proven ability to navigate complex organizational structures and drive successful business outcomes.
Strong regulatory and stakeholder management capability, including the ability to interpret regulatory requirements and legal considerations, translate them into actionable guidance for internal stakeholders, and leverage knowledge of Western Union's organizational structures and systems.
Bachelor's degree required in Law, Finance, Business, Risk Management, Accounting, Public Policy, or a related discipline. Advanced degree preferred.
Industry certifications are strongly preferred: Professional certifications such as CAMS, ICA, PMP, PRINCE2, CFE, CRCM, or equivalent certifications are highly desirable.
Additional Skills:
Advanced expertise in AML/CTF regulatory frameworks, Australian regulatory requirements, remediation program execution, PMO leadership, governance frameworks, risk and issue management, regulatory engagement, executive reporting, change management, project portfolio management, data analysis, and program controls
Strong knowledge of AUSTRAC expectations and regulatory remediation practices is highly desirable.
Advanced communication, executive presence, stakeholder management, negotiation, influencing skills, regulatory relationship management, strategic thinking, problem solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, leadership, organizational agility, and ability to drive results under significant regulatory scrutiny and demanding deadlines.
