About you and this role
Dow has an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Hygiene Technician! This position will support the Houston Hub (Deer Park, Lone Star, Bayport, and Texas City sites). In this role, you will share with the Industrial Hygiene (IH) Specialist the responsibility for the implementation of the IH management system (work processes, standards, procedures) in order to meet business objectives and to maintain the license to operate. You will also be responsible for conducting hands-on industrial hygiene assessments and activities.
Responsibilities
- Implement detailed, task level, day-to-day Industrial Hygiene programs, utilizing the IH work process, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure that the IH and Health aspects of operating discipline are adequate and applied to achieve IH performance goals. In most cases, would perform the role of section owner for the IH sections of operating discipline.
- Act as the Plant resource for related IH information on procedures, guidelines and standards.
- Serve as plant contact for IH and Health issues.
- Coach teams and individuals on IH related tasks and activities.
- Assist in developing and achieving area or plant IH goals.
- Ensure compliance tasks are completed.
- Perform/coordinate certain IH routine and non-routine monitoring (with assistance from the plant aligned H&S tech for scheduling and identifying non-routine), including monitoring strategy, data collection, analyzing and reporting for the Plant
- Responsible for managing IH monitoring equipment and returning it in a timely manner.
- As required, participate in IH related reviews and projects.
- Coordinate the schedules for audits in the IH related areas.
- As required, conduct and document investigations of incidents and ensure follow up actions to prevent re-occurrences that are addressed.
- Coordinate with Industrial Hygiene Expertise and Health Services to assign medical surveillance requirements to affected employees.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industrial hygiene associate degree or professional certification.
- Industrial Hygiene Tech Experience including but not limited to knowledge of dosimetry, equipment calibration and preparation, monitoring methods, and use of direct reading instruments (PIDs, multi-gas meters, etc.).
- Basic analytical chemistry to understand lab reports (flow rates, volume, mass, concentration, and occupational exposure limits).
- Experience or willing to learn Industrial Hygiene management software such as Cority, ear-fit, and noise data management.
- Basic radiation fundamentals and use of radiation survey equipment.

- Microsoft Office: Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Physical Demands
- Lift, push, and pull.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to work in an indoor/outdoor environment.
- Work in tight and closed in spaces.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator, earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
