Description
We are recruiting on behalf of a client for a proactive and hands-on Residence Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a student accommodation property. This role requires a strong leader who can balance property and facilities management, student engagement, maintenance, financial oversight and stakeholder relationships while ensuring the residence operates efficiently and delivers an excellent student experience.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations, facilities and overall management of the residence.
- Manage building maintenance, repairs, refurbishments, inspections, handovers and planned and reactive maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements, house rules, policies and operational procedures.
- Manage student affairs, including queries, complaints, misconduct, mentoring, intakes, vacates and general student support.
- Assist with leasing, applications, occupancy management and maintaining accurate student and vacancy schedules.
- Manage contractors, service providers, maintenance personnel and other on-site team members.
- Monitor budgets, operational expenditure and property performance, assisting with monthly and annual financial reporting.
- Compile management reports and ensure accurate records, asset registers and documentation are maintained.
- Build strong working relationships with students, universities, vendors, contractors and other key stakeholders.
- Lead, coordinate and develop assigned staff through effective delegation, performance management and regular communication.
- Support student life initiatives, events and programmes that enhance the overall accommodation experience.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) is essential.
- Additional property management training and/or a building maintenance background would be advantageous.
- Minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Student accommodation experience is essential.
- Strong understanding of property management and student accommodation procedures.
- Knowledge of budgeting, leasing agreements and service contracts.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office and relevant property or operational systems.
- Excellent leadership, planning, organisation and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students and diverse stakeholders.
- A proactive, assertive and highly organised approach with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to lead teams, manage contractors and maintain high operational and service standards.
