The Consultative Pharmacy Technician 4 certified Pharmacy Technician who acts as an intake for all calls from patients, pharmacies and providers. The Consultative Pharmacy Technician 4 assumes ownership and leads advanced and highly specialized administrative/operational/customer support duties that require independent initiative and judgment.The Clinical Pharmacy Technician 4 will report to a Supervisor and will support the Integrated Clinical Pharmacist by assisting with medication reconciliation, preparation for medication therapy management activities, and chronic disease management support. This role contributes to the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient medication-use processes, including the reduction of medication waste, and improvement of patient outcomes. This role also promotes a strong understanding of medication optimization principles within the clinical pharmacy technician team. This position supports the advancement of best practices aligned with value-based care, encourages collaboration across the care team, and contributes to improved quality, safety, and patient-centered outcomes.
In this role you will:
- Know and continually review medication brand and generic names, medical terminology, and pharmaceutical calculations.
- Medication adherence outreach, auditing, documenting, and reporting as it pertains to STAR measures when applicable.
- Assist in day-to-day tasks as needed and requested by lead pharmacist or National Director of Pharmacy.
- Responsible for interacting with other departments to assist with member problems or questions and act as facilitator to resolve them regarding prior authorization or obtaining medications.
- Attend scheduled team meetings and provide relevant feedback regarding workflow issues.
- Assist clinical pharmacists in troubleshooting prescription third party claim rejections by accessing and understanding formulary restrictions, plan limitations, drug utilization review overrides, requesting and completing prior authorization, and/or communicating with plan representatives and/or prescribers to resolve such issues.
- Responsible for initiating and following through with patient assistance programs, prior authorizations, formulary exceptions/alternatives, and tier reductions to help patients afford their medications.
- Assist clinical pharmacists with disease management scheduling, pre-appointment preparation, and follow up tasks for medication education.
- Assist clinical pharmacists with medication therapy management scheduling, pre-appointment preparation, follow up tasks for medication reconciliation/education.
- Processing of select medication claim updates (lists) as requested by the clinical pharmacists or providers.

Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program and active State Pharmacy Technician Certification and License if required in your state of residence
- PTCB Certified
- Must have one of the two Certifications through PTCB and ability to obtain the other within 60 days of start date; Medication Therapy Management Certification (MTM), or Medication History Certification
- Minimum Three (3) years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- Experience with prior Authorization
- Knowledge of the top 200 drugs
- Experience and/or ability to work with electronic health record system
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pharmacy Benefit Management experience
- Advanced Pharmacy Technician Certification and License (CPhT-ADV)
