Description
The Shipping Clerk is responsible for preparing, packaging, and coordinating the shipment of finished goods from the manufacturing facility. This position ensures that products are shipped accurately, on time, and in compliance with customer specifications and company standards. This role supports overall manufacturing operations by helping maintain an efficient outbound logistics process.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and package manufactured products for shipment, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Generate and manage shipping paperwork, including bills of lading (BOL), packing slips, and shipping labels.
- Schedule and coordinate daily pickups with freight carriers (LTL, FTL, small parcel)
- Verify outgoing shipments for accuracy, damage, and order completeness.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment to move products safely.
- Record shipment data in the ERP or warehouse management system (WMS)
- Communicate with production, inventory, and customer service teams to ensure shipping timelines are met.
- Maintain compliance with all safety procedures, company policies, and shipping regulations.
- Keep the shipping area clean, organized, and safe at all times.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Assist with incoming shipments and receiving tasks when needed.
- Participate in periodic physical inventory and cycle counts.
- Support special projects or continuous improvement initiatives within the warehouse.
- Provide backup coverage for other logistics roles during absences or peak times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- 1+ year of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations (manufacturing environment preferred)
- Basic knowledge of shipping platforms (e.g., UPS, FedEx, LTL systems)
- Familiarity with ERP or warehouse systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.)
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete paperwork accurately.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
- Manual dexterity required to operate shipping equipment and tools.
- Occasional exposure to loud noises, dust, and varying temperatures in a warehouse/manufacturing setting
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company policy
